I am also ready to click the buy button on a new nitro piston rifle but there are lots of conflicting reports on the various "NPSS" models. I am wondering if the Trail NP (not XL) shares the same powerplant as the Remington NPSS. If so, why is the Trail NP rated at 23 FPE and 950 FPS while the Remingtom NPSS (and Crossman NPSS) are rated at 1000 FPS? Real world tests have proven that the NPSS is realy only a 16 FPE gun. Why would Crossman rate their new Trail NP at 23 FPE if it shares the same powerplant as the NPSS that only produces a true 16 FPE?  Might it have a bigger powerplant?

I also compared the weights and sizes of the various NPSS models and am amzed at the small differences between what is basically the same rifle. It must be a communication breakdown like Gene suggests.

I have been looking and looking also..  Looking at the different pictures that are presented between the two models, it seems the NP  being China as a different gas ram than the NPSS.  If the NPSS is truly all USA made would it have a China ram, or the other way around!!  If the same,  how can the NP be 229 with scope and the NPSS be 299..  Crosman should chime in here and explain all this..... We are not just talking about the rams but the barrels also, USA or China??  Better yet lets make them both here.....

If they do it may clear up allot of heads on what to purchase and they may get a flood of orders. We need to know what we are getting and by whom made....

Since the Trail NP (wood) has been for sale for the last 5 or 6 days now, I am hoping that someone who has received one will post some real world numbers like its weight, length and power. It would be nice to see some chrony strings on one before I press the "order" button.

Jeff,

My .177 NPSS shoots JSB 8.4 Exacts around 880 fps (with lighter pellets the gun does shoot in the 900's).  I haven't got thousands of rounds through it yet, she's not yet full broken in.  I just got the rifle back from CDT (he used it when working on his new trigger) and so far the new trigger makes it a whole lot more enjoyable.  The stock Crosman trigger was very heavy with an extremely long first stage.  I've been satisfied with accuracy in my basement, but haven't been able to shoot her at any considerable distance.  Cocking is smooth and the firing cycle is sharp but manageable.  My NPSS seems to like a tight hold, even though others seem to think that NPSS's are hold sensitive.  The gun balances well, but the included one piece scope rings make scope placement problematic re: eye relieve since the stop pin hole fixes the location of the mount on the action.  A small glitch, two piece rings would have been better.

Overall, I'm happy with the NPSS, CDT's trigger is a big improvement.  I think the .177 NPSS is a keeper.  Hope this helped.

Thanks Eric,,, I really appreciate the information, it's very helpful .

I'm starting to lean more towards the .177 than the .22.  Thanks again.

Even better if someone who has an NPSS and gets a new Trail NP. That would be good...:) I wish they had the .177 in the Trail NP. I would buy one to compare with my NPSS .177 that I am getting on Tuesday.

I hear you longisland...the more and more i hear about the npss, the mor eim just gonna wait or not get it at all. .....first thing first I had planned on buying that digital camo crosman npss .22 1000fps when i first saw it in like demcember.......Then I check back in january, and see DISCONTINUED! sucks, long story longer ..I find out about the name change and was like okay..I check out these benji trails/or remi's

skip forward to this month
The benji had better stocks...so for myself I had picked out that laminated stock .22 cal wood trail, beautiful gun! and was planning on ordering this week, what happens? they push the release date to june 2010

D********it, okay I then picked out the less attractive more powerful trail XL 1100. i was able to find a couple reviews online on this gun and it was producing real world numbers as advertised. but still not everyone has the in stock yet...PA does, limited..then they are gone.

And i plan on buying a new .22 this week no matter what, with it being such a new gun i'll just have to pass and let more reviews come in, and all the for sure kinks worked out the early batch guns. with that being said  and what I was gonna pay for that gun $299.99....Im just gonna pay a lil more and get a tried and tested benji disco @ $369 new with pump.

oh yeah btw...upon my earlier research and also calling crosman i found the benji trails.... DO NOT share the same power plant as the remington npss/ crosman npss. they are using a slightly larger nitro piston.

I havent found any reviews on the regular trails, but you can believe the 23fpe claim. since they are telling the truth about the trail XL fpe :emoticon:

That was my thinking too CitySniper. I have seen numbers on the Trail XL that are pretty darn close to the advertsed 30 FPE so it makes sense that the Trail NP would have a bigger powerplant than the NPSS and produce close to 23 FPE. I also wanted the laminate gun but don't really want to wait till June to buy one.

If you don't mind barely used, there seem to be one or two Nitro's turning up on the classifieds every week. $225 - $175. No scope on several but still not too bad if you happen to already have one.

I looked at the classifieds and was tempted but I'm looking for a Nitro Piston in the 20+ FPE range that's not 9 lbs and 50" long. The Trail NP looks to fit the bill so I just might buy the hardwood model that's available now at PA for $229.

The crosman npss and remington npss are the same.PA said they were and transfered my review from the crosman npss over to the remington. My 22cal shoots chp 14.3 pellets at 700fps and jsb 15,8 diabolo exact jumpo at 670fps.Shoots smother and qoiter than my springers and is very accurate at 50yds with the jsb pellets. Also you can't go wrong with a disco.Just my two cents.
