Anybody tried the Gamo red fire pellets yet? I bought a tin of these the other day while I was at the sporting goods store and tried them in a few of my .177 caliber guns. The Big Cat was decent with them, but the Remington Summit was making great groups with them.
I wasn’t able to get out shooting today so my only pest bird I had the chance to take was the few house sparrows mixed in with all the house finches on the feeders. I opened the garage door to take some trash out and was surprised to see the starlings had returned to have a go at the suet feeders. I quickly grabbed my B25 and shot over the big glossy black male on the suet cage. No sooner had he flown off when a group on sparrows landed in the tree tops. Not knowing exactly where the 25 was shooting, this time I grabbed the Summit and loaded a Gamo red fire. I lined up for the shot, pulled the trigger and watched the little bird disappear in a cloud of feathers. He hung upside down for a few minutes before falling to the ground. I was just about to go get him when I noticed a second sparrow in the tree. I couldn’t believe he didn’t fly when shot the first one, so I loaded another red fire and shot with the exact same results.
The Remington was shooting right around 750 fps last time I chronographed with CPHP, so I would assume it’s shooting these red fires about the same speed. But I could not believe the amount of damage this little pellet was causing. I mean it opened both of these birds up. Both shot from about 20 yards and the terminal damage was impressive.
I imagine they are similar to the other poly tipped hollow points out there, but I thought I would ask if anyone else has used them, and if so what kind of results have they had.
