Scope needed
« on: February 22, 2010, 01:30:27 PM »
I got a BSA variable magnification scope with paralax setting. Its not very bright and i cant seem to get a sweetspot when looking through it. Im sending it back to pyramid. I dont think i need paralax. Is that the same as adjustable objective?? I also want suggestions on a fixed 4x32 scope that will withstand recoil. I dont mind a mil dot. I would like illuminated. Any suggestions?

how much recoil?...what are you mounting it on?  hawke airmax 2-7x32AO is magnum airgun rated but is adjustable objective $125.

For my Big Cat. Iwas looking closely at the 6x32 or the 4x32 Leapers bug buster with the TS logo (true strength). Might look too small on the rifle, but if its a quality scope then...

If you're looking for a really nice 4x32  scope take a look at this one.....

http://www.natchezss.com/Optics.cfm?contentID=productDetail&brand=OS&prodID=OSAR4X32&prodTitle=BSA%20%20Air%20Rifle%20Scope%204x32%20AO%20Target%20Turrets

It has "AO", has nice clear optics, will withstand a pounding and the best part is Natchez sells it dirt cheap.  This scope is my absolute favorite 4x32 AO scope.  I have several of them and they've held up beautifully even on one of my magnum springers.

Funny thing. Having no experience with scopes, The higher the magnification the more "wobbly" the target acuisition. I hold my rifle at 20-30 yards on a target and Im lucky if i can actually see the crosshairs over the sweetspot for any length of time! The 4x32 gives the appearence of a steadier hold but its really and illusion. They are probably just as accurate as one zoomed in anyway. :emoticon: Just makes me feel steadier!

I have a Leapers Tact Edge scope with illuminated red and green mil dot reticle and that thing is nice! Zero Locking target turrets are nice also. If you have never used them I suggest them. WHen you get done zeroing your rifle you just unscrew the turret and set it back to zero so it you have to adjust anything you can just click it back to the correct zero everytime. Mil dot is definately the way to go. I shoot 2 different pellets one I zeroed in at 25 yards the other hits 1 mil lower at same yardage. Just put the next dot down and bam hits! For 52 bucks its an awesome scope.

Can you explain the zeroing aspect in a little more detail? That sounds interesting.

It has the target turrets on the scope. Numbers on the turrets are 0-14 in both directions. The scope body itself has a line for both turrets to line the numbers up on this way you know what number you turret is on.  When you get your rifle "zeroed" for what ever range your are shooting and say you have your turrets set at 7 clicks up for elevation and 4 right windage and thats your zero for 25 yards. Then while holding the turrets so they dont move you looses the turret screws then pull up or out on the respective turret and rotate it back to where the zero lines up with the line on the scope body. Now you are zeroed and the scope is set at zero's on the turrets.

This way if you have to add 5 clicks because of a breeze that day, your turret will be lined up with the 5 on the turret even with the line on the scope body. Then 2 days later  you go out and no wind just set it back to zero and you are hitting your 25 yard "zero" again.

I have the zero locking turrets on my Gamo Hunter air rifle and my Romainian PSL rifle, copy of the Dragunov. I like them very much. Sounds complicated but once you get the hang of it its so easy. No more trying to remember how many clicks were added or in what direction.

Hope this helps.

I didn't get it from Natchez, but it was included with a rifle I bought here (through the classifieds).
Great scope.  Now that I know where to get them for $30, I'm going to have to pick up a couple more :)
