Question about an air rifle
« on: February 28, 2010, 10:09:33 AM »
A friend has an air rifle that I can not find any information on .  Perhaps someone here can help me .  It is cast on the side as a " premier patented 1924"  It is a .22 pump .
Any info would be greatly appreciated .
Thanks, Franchi

Crosman Model 101. Some of them have this logo. Just do a search on that. Nice guns. Also, check out PyramydAir.com's blog website and search for a good review by Tom Gaylord.

Yes , that is it!!   Thank you for the welcome , I have been lurking here for quite a while.  I figured this would be the place to find out about that rifle .
Thanks again.

edit:  I say that is it , but , it does not say Crosman anywhere on it .  Only Premier and the patent date.

not really a 101

This rifle was made sometime between 1927 and 1929. At that time, this gun was Crosmans only production rifle, and it was advertized as the Crosman Pneumatic .22 or just the Crosman .22 rifle, the designation 101, 102 etc didn't appear until sometime around 1940.
That being said, the Premier model is one of the rarest variants. Apparently only a small number of these were made, most likely for an outside vendor or catalog sales company such as Sears, Stoegers or Montgomery Wards.

Would this rifle be worth 100 dollars , in non-working order?  It does not pump up at all.
I'm really interested in it because of it's age .
Thanks

If its pretty decent cosmetically, $100 is a very good price. A nice example in good working order should be worth near $200, maybe more to the right collector. Resealing is not a problem, seals are readily available and there are quite a few  repair shops that will do the work.
