Who needs a Bowflex when they can have a Trail XL instead ?

You know you got a powerful gun when you find yourself doing stretches and warm-ups before loading it with the first pellet of the day !  :D  :D  :D

Old new to some but new to others were all here to share our knowledge no matter how old the news is, yes they are made in the same factory but the Leapers are a better scope!

Having one of each now, I see advatages, and disadvatages to both.

I like the finer crosshairs and more precise hold-over "tick marks " of my new 3-9x40 Centerpoint. The turrets move easily and the clicks are more precise too. But, even with reading glasses I need a magnifier to see any of the marking on the turrets.

My 3-12x44  Leapers has thicker, true mildots which I find are not as precise for using  just for hold-over. And, the turrets don't adjust well, but at least I can read all the markings.

Both have distortion all around the outer edges and give an almost fisheye lens type view. Rather annoying when scanning side to side.

As to holding up, time will tell for the Centerpoint. Times up on the Leapers.

Center poit scopes are Leaper 5th Gen scopes.  Here are the 3-9X40AO scopes from both brands.

The Centerpoint 3-9X40 AO scope that came on my Trail NP does not look like the one pictured above. I'll take a pic of it tomorrow and post it.

While the two scopes pictured above look similar their specs are different according to PA::

Centerpoint 3-9X40:
Length (in.): 13.75
Weight (oz.): 20.5

Leapers 3-9X40:
Length: 13.5"
Weight: 20.2oz

I'd heard that Centerpoint was Leapers too, but like Perry said, my Trail XL Centerpoint is not like any of those pictured.

The 3-9x40 Centerpoint on my Trail XL doesn't even look like any of the scopes in the accessories section on Crosman's website.

One thing I have learned through two of my friends who are engineer/importers and have parts/machinery made in China...
Things manufactured in China DO NOT go buy the rules, and protections we are used to seeing here. It's the wild west of manufacturing there and it's been driving USA importers who deal there to pull their hair out for about 30 years now .... and it's only gotten slightly better in recent years.

I made the same assumption about two pieces of Chinese industrial sewing machines that look like they came out of the same factory, but a friend who is the importer pointed out that they came from two differant companie's factories .. in the same Chinese city.

He further explained that in China, there are many, many factories, and it's very common that they steal/copy designs from each other, and from around the world.

Plus, by now, just about all the top sewing machine  manufacturers in the world are having  their machinery made in China, including some of the very expensive German machines. I have a Chinese made industrial sewing machine for my work and it is excellent quality from a factory that is now making machines for many of the top brands in the world. There are other Chinese factories making cheep look-alikes  of machines from that excellent quality factiory, trying to capitalized on the good factorie's success. All those machines are available in this country and you have to be very careful which one you buy.

There is some top quality stuff coming out of China now, the equal of the best in the world .. and there is still some  garbage coming out too.

Add to that,  with some importers, not all their models are made in the same factory !

It may be the same with scopes made in China.

Another thing I've learned about Chinese made goods ... good luck finding out the truth of where each model is made,... and whatever you find out  ...could all change next week.

All that can be said with confidence about anything "Made in China" is .... never assume anything. The odds are good that you'll be wrong when you do ...or you may be right today - but, wrong tomorrow !!!!

I once was told something about car parts and I think it applies here.  Theres only a few mfgr's of parts and the peices that don't quite make the grade are sold to discount stores like Auto Zone and Discount Auto and such.  Is it possible that while CP usually makes a good product, some of the "cheaper" ones made it onto these other-wise descent rifles?  And is it possible that they could be replaced with a CP bought from, say, WalMart?  I know it doesn't help with the extra $ spent to get the scope in the kit in the first place.  Just thinking out-loud.

Hey Ray,

I bought a Beni Trail Hardwood and believe I have a bad scope also as my POI kept changing. I checked all the hardware on the rifle and scope to make sure it was tight and it sure was. I had another Center point scope I bought for another rifle and installed that one and so far all appears to be fine. I hope theses new models don't turn-out to be scope killers :(. I will update if any changes.
