RWS Diana 48 in .25 cal

HNT5 - 3/14/2010 6:37 PM will give you no increase in fps in a spring gun. Longer barrels will help with PCP and CO2, to a point. All the pellet acceleration occurs in the first 5-7 inches of barrel length with a spring rifle. Longer than 25 (or so) will slow the pellet due to friction. Nathan

Has anyone ever actually started cutting a barrel an inch or so at a time to find out when velocity starts dropping off in a springer? dunno I am really new at AG stuff and I am sure different compression cylinder sizes would make a differencebut I would find it pretty suprising if it was as little as 7 inches

Thier has been a of this research done over the years, they say you only need 10'' of BBl but some say you start to a real fall off when you get at 14'' or under

Two weeks back I cut the barrel on my QB36-2 in .22 cal and tested the rifle on a 2x4  shooting from two feet back and it penetrated a little deeper that when stock, rifle It took a chunk of my palm when I cocked as it slipped from my hand needed stitches but you know me I just put a splinter on my 4 fingers pushed the peace of meat back in and walla, it  healed real good.
 I would say that the pellets  penetrated the wood 1/4 inch deeper than when stock. I read some were were Tom Gaylord said that springer absorb most of the energy in the first 10", so I cut 8" of the rifle and for fun the fun, it left the rifle with 11" for the look LOL and it handles easier comes to my shoulder more natural not barrel heavy any more. I Wish I had a crony to really compare the results.

Supposedly anything after 10'' slows the pellet down, the reason most rifles have longer BBl's is to aid the cocking effort.

Today I picked up my 48 .25 cal and is is a real pretty rifle, man o man it is spotless.  I just shot it a few times to sight it in the scope and took 3 shots and bullseye at 10 yard's.
 I will do some more shooting with the Mosquito Pellets, some Diana magnums plus beeman crow magnum and JSB exact pellets to see how it performs, I will need to break it in first, so far real nice shooter. It will be a real pleasure to shoot this fine rifle with my daughter as she loves it all ready, she love to shoot with her daddy.  I'm really lucky with my little girl, well not so little she goes to college all ready, LOL.

Well had one of my nephews split some cards at 15 yards right down the middle with my 48, mind you this is his first time he ever picked up a spring rifle and as he put it, this is one bad rifle to shoot.

I was shooting my 48 today and was splitting some poker cards at 15 yard in half, my rifle came with a 4 power scope not bad for first shooting sessions, will see how it performs at longer distances. I was shooting the webley mosquito pellets.

Well boy I got the rifle this Wednesday and it is a real shooter, I just sighted in the scope it came with a 4 power scope seems to be very accurate out to 40 yards so far nice power too.
This is one good looking gun man I love at all ready seems to hit every thing I aim at,

38 grains at 596 fps. Thats just shy of 30 fpe. The only air rifles I have heard of before capable of launching .25 caliber pellets to that FPE (in stock configuration)  is the Webley Patriot, Beeman Kodiak and Theoben Eliminator. And that is the 'hotter" shooting ones at that. I would think the RWS 48 should be able to produce around 21 to 22 fpe easy enough and there is nothing wrong with that IMO. Anything over 20 fpe in an air rifle is still a thumper.

It must be a typo. Eun Jin doesn't make a 38 grain pellet in .22 caliber but they do make a 28 grain pellet. That would be a more realistic 22 FPE.

Vortec just came out with a Pro-guide2 for this gun.  http://www.Vortekproducts.com

Don't know how well it will work with a .25 cal but you could ask them.  They claim a .22 cal shooting at 840fps with 14.3 grain pellets and no vibration.
