Which PCP air guns are easy to adjust the power ?
« on: March 18, 2010, 04:54:45 AM »

Hey brother members,

I have been reading all the posts about PCP's since their inception,

And I can't remember for the life of me which models are easy to adjust the power on ?????

If I do go to the DARK SIDE, (I never thought I'd be saying that !),I,ll need the capability to adjust the power for close safe shooting !

Thanks much in advance !!!!

Bill, Marauder is very tunable, but requires allen wrenches and a chrony. As far as "on the go" power adjustment you have to look into BSA's Air Arms and some Korean rifles. Most lower cost PCP's require tweaking to change velocities

BILL,

THE SUMATRA HAS A WHEEL ADJUSTMENT IN THE BOTTON OF THE RIFLE AND THE AIRFORCE RIFLES HAVE ADJUSTMENT TOO.

THE MARAUDER:  YOU CAN ADJUST THE POWER BUT YOU NEED TWO ALLENS TO DO THAT BY THE REAR OF THE RIFLE

The 400/410 ERB have a adjuster wheel that allows you to go from low to high and anywhere in between. There are no stops or detents. Some of the FX guns like the Cyclone et al use a three position lever for high, medium and low power settings.  As Gerald noted many Korean guns have a wheel to adjust the power. I believe the wheel may have detents or stops. On many other rifles(BSA Theoben, Marauder etc), the power can be adjusted (by varying degrees depending on the rifle) by adjusting the hammer spring tension. This may or may not require removal of the stock and/or an end cap on the receiver to access the screw. Some of the early AA rifles (pre-ERB) had a screw installed in the side by Pomona Airguns as part of their "power mod". That allowed some fine tuning of the velocity(again within limits) by partially blocking the airflow. I would recommend the Air Arms or FX method, as it requires no tools, can be accessed from the side of the rifle and can be reset instantly. I'm sure I missed a make or model, but that's all I can think of right now.

Bill....very limited knowledge on PCPs.... My Air Arms S410SL have a knob and the FX Cyclone have a lever to adjust their power. The S410SL have 5 levels....low, quarter, mid, 3/4 and high, while the Cyclone have only low, mid and high. They both are very easy to adjust....no tools required...and can be adjusted even when the rifle is cocked and have a pellet in the breech. I know some PCPs require the user to adjust the power setting before cocking the gun.

As far as I know....I don`t think the BSA PCPs have adjustable power levels yet.....my Scorpion T-10 is full power all the time.

Btw, all those mentioned above are bolt or lever action multi-shot PCPs. The clip/magazine for the AA 410s are almost $50.00U.S apiece, while the BSA mags are $99.00U.S each!!!!!.....that's what I read a few months ago, I could've been mistaken and/or the prices could be down abit. I believe the BSA magazines fit their whole line......so if you have more than one BSA PCP (Like Gene and PeakChick) in the same caliber you can use the mags in any of them.

LOL Bill...:) A Disco or Maurader is very simple to adjust power up or down on. I am no expert by no means on PCP but I have and still own several of the PCP mentioned above and more. They were easy as well to adjust power on but for one thing you need allot of room for the Sumatra..:) The ERB is ok but very expensive. Even my FX is easy to adjust power on. Those that  have been mentioned are way more expensive for the convenience of being able to adjust the power...:)  If and when you ever decide to purchase a PCP I would suggest the Disco or Kantana. Just have it shipped to me and I will take care of the power mod for you..:)  But I think with the Disco in a .177 and shooting out of the box at around 850 fps would be good for your plinking enjoyment..:)

Come on over Brother Bill.. I bet you can feel the pull of the Dark Side all the time now... hehehe

THE ONES I SLEEP WITH: BSA Lightning XL, AA TX-200, AA ProSport, BSA Ultra, HW-97K, Crosman NPSS .177, FX Cyclone, HW-30 Nicle Plated, AA-S200, Crosman Marauder, CZ-634, R-9 DG, Webley/Scott UK Tomahawk, Benji Kantana, Benji Marauder, Benji Discovery.....

Thanks brothers !

And YES Gene, the DARK SIDE has been calling from day two ! I just don't have the space for Hi-Power PCP air guns, too many darn kids around !

I appreciate all of your information on PCPs' and I can now start looking at specific brands and models for my next air gun !

I held off as long as I can, If I have learned anything in my long years on earth, it is to adjust and modify or be left behind ! The only thing certain in life is change !

Thanks ALL !

Bill, I agree with Gene.... a disco or Katana with a power adjuster would fit the bill plus you would have the advantage of the 2000 psi fill, which is a wonderful thing if you're going to be using a pump and also a great thing when it comes to the # of fills you get from scuba tank.

I knew the pull of the dark side would get to you sooner or later buddy  :)

the Career Infinity has a wheel just in front of the trigger
that adjusts the fps from 1220 down to 400fps
and anywhere in between...It works by altering the hammer stroke...
