Airgun throwbacks - Dan, Ben and the ol' 102
« on: March 21, 2010, 11:47:51 AM »
Here's my three favorite air rifles from my collection right now. A 1965 Sheridan Blue Streak, a 2008 Benjamin 392, and a post-war Crosman 102.

The Streak shoots like a dream and is an absolute pleasure to use. JSB' and Benjamin cylindrical pellets are it's favorites.

The Crosman 102 has had the original rear sight replaced with one from a Sheridan. I have finally found a pellet it really likes, JSB 15.8 Exact Jumbos.

The 392 has had a fair amount of work done to it and it is now almost as nice to shoot as the old 'Dan. Ben likes RWS Superdomes best, but kinda likes the JSB exact Jumbos and Daisy wadcutters of all things.

Now you just taught me something! I've been considering a Crosman 101/102 for a while but have never seen one in the flesh. I always thought, from all of the pictures I have seen, that they were a fairly long gun. When I pulled up your picture, my first thought was "Is that a 102 carbine?" It appears to be shorter than the bottom gun and slimmer than the Sheridan!

Yep, it's a regular 102. The 102 (and probably101) are slimmer and more compact than the Sheridan and Benjamin rifles. Also a little easier to pump too.

I'm really liking these fast handling handy carbine-size rifles.

Same gun. Only difference is the 102 has the pellet magazine mechanism. How well does yours feed? I hear the Crosmans are also quieter, too.

yep those r great airrifles cause i have a 342 ben franklin 1969 and a blue streak .20cal and them triggers r very light like 1.5 lbs or maybe a little less or a little more but accurate as can be in my photo album they r viewable ,i need seals for my ben franklin 342 .22 cal 1969 and its being shipped to mac 1 for the work cause for a small airrifle it packs a punch .u can hunt with it for hours without worrying about weight or pumping ,i just hope when i recieve it she will be in the same condition as when i first got her .with new seals and a stem value i,ll be back in buissness and would like it in the same fps as it was before which is about mid 600,s or just a little higher like 685 i guess it depends the weight of the pellets ...airgundy i love your set of older models they r great to look at and shoot ,i call them keepers and only i could shoot it no one else .....jorge lopez

I had to do a little tweaking of the feed mechanism when I first got it, but it generally works pretty well now. Peculiar thing with the 102 is there is no follower/spring in the tube feed magazine, so you have tip the gun back so the muzzle is in the air at about a 45 degree angle and throw the bolt. Gravity feeds a pellet into the mechanism and you close the bolt. And yes, the 102 is a bit quieter than the Ben and 'Dan
