2300KT Weekend Makeover
« on: March 22, 2010, 06:32:17 AM »
I had a chance to play shop this weekend,as my wife was away house sitting for some friends of ours. After receiving my 2300KT this past Thursday,it was time to tear it down, and make some improvements.just the usual polishing of trigger, sear contact points etc.

At that point the creativity kicked in,and I took it further,by removing all casting edges on the grip frame, and polished it all out.At one point I had the grip frame to a mirror polish but the pot metal is porous, and resulted in a blotchy appearance. So I backed off the polish a bit,and found that when given the look of brushed stainless it blends away the flaws.

Next I broke out the phosphoric acid, and removed the bluing on the breech, end caps, and gas tube cap. After 2 minutes the acid was neutralized with a baking soda, and water solution. All were polished out using "Mothers" billet polish...great stuff.

After they were degreased,I shot all the polished parts with industrial wheel epoxy clear coat,"2 dusting coats, and 2 coverage coats".They were baked at 350,for 30 minutes,to set the finish....don't use your regular oven for this....The coating is SUPER tough......

Beautiful!

Is the epoxy available in an aerosol can?

Brownells is a good product for sure. Also you can get a Preval sprayer, which has a self contained propellant cartridge. With that you have more options,as to what product you use.
