M-ROD Problems.... Already!
« on: March 29, 2010, 05:38:26 AM »

Just got the gun Friday and everything was going good, until I decided to adjust the factory settings. Hammer tension, and hammer stroke both adjusted just fine. (1/4, 1/8 allen)

But When I went to adjust the metering screw (5/64 allen) I ran into a problem. The Jam nut removed just fine....I then went to adjust the screw itself (per Manual,A-team instructions).

I tried to turn clockwise to bottom out the screw, and then I was gonna open it back up 4 turns. But The screw was so Tight I was unable to move it, I then checked to make sure I was using the correct size allen wrench  (which I was). But still nothing...

Finally Long Story short : The metering screw ended up rounding out, and now unable to be turned at all. ( this happened yesterday)

I was really upset about this, because this gun is made to be adjusted and should be able to do so without problems. I've already contacted Crosman this morning, seeing as everyone praises their customer service. And the gun has already been dropped of at the UPS store to be shipped to them 2nd day Air! I just want my gun back!

From Greg Davis Web Site

With constant adjustment, it is likely that the hole in the brass set screw will round out eventually. The brass is that soft. If this happens and you can’t withdraw it with the allen key, take a long shank T10 bit, mount it in a driver handle, center it in the brass screw and tap it into the brass with a hammer. It will broach the hole enough that you can then unscrew it. Once done, the brass screw is shot… Do not put it back into the rifle.

WoW... So it is a known problem then!.....,If i would I have known that I would have just had crosman send me a new screw. The Stock was not perfect and did have a blemish on it out the box so I was sure to also note that when I sent it back.

So I am actually hoping they just send me a new gun, I will never part with my Marauder ever again!

P.S.

I did not get a chrony yet, I was gonna order the green one next week. I was just making the adjustments copied from another .22 mrod on a post I was reading

Why does Greg Davis  say to use a "8/32" SAE allen wrench, But the Manual says to use a "5/64" SAE allen wrench?

I've checked all my keys and I don't have that size, so I guess i'll go to a local tool store and pick one up today.

Is it a similar size, just tighter fitting? anyone have experience :o

I believe 8-32 describes the diameter of the screw and the threads per inch. Not the same as 8/32".

I'm thinking about getting the Mrod, what scope and rings are you using.

The Marauder Transfer Port screw is an 8-32 x 3/8”
That is Size 8 Screw, 32 threads per inch, 3/8 inch long.

Thanx everyone for your Help! I actually called Greg Davis per his thread about that and he has answered my questions.

He also has informed me why my screw was so tight! They use red-lock-tite from the factory on the metering screw,  he recommend i take it out next time and soak in nail polish remover to clean that lock tite off
