Rat Smashing With The 2300KT
« on: March 29, 2010, 10:59:14 AM »
This doesn't qualify as hunting, but it sure was fun.Today I was dialing in the Barska red dot on my 2300KT custom,in my little indoor range. While shooting some decent groups I caught some movement from the corner of my eye.It was a little rat bastard about 12 yards out, just to the side of the ivy!I was shooting Crosman field/hunting pellets in .22,but wanted to wreck this little fur ball so I reached for the crow mags.I had about half a 12 gram left in the pistol so I figured It would be all clear for the shot.I slowly opened the window,as he was darting in,and out of the ivy,and waited. After about three minutes he came out,and showed me a side profile,so it was time.I put the red dot on center mass, squeezed, and was rewarded with a loud THWACK.The rat did a back flip about 8-9 inches off the ground, and was sent back into the ivy ass over tea kettle.I have yet to find the little bastard,so no pics guys...sorry.I'm sure he's somewhere in the ivy though. The pellet hit HARD so I'm pretty sure his ticket got punched........   :emoticon:

Thanks...I was a bit over caffeinated at the time, and my hands were a-little shaky...so I think there was some luck involved.I can tell though that this is going to be a good hunting rig,as I'm getting 1 inch or so groups freehand at 5 meters.

It can be pretty hard to put a rat down with a body shot, assuming you miss the vitals. I've never seen one run off after a headshot though :-)

I wish the Rat Kill forums here were still active: http://www.ratkill.com/main.shtml  , there was lots of great info on rat shooting/hunting/behavior over there.

Playing with:
Gamo .177 CFX/GRT-III / Delta
Baikal .22 MP-512M
Crosman 2240/ 2250 / 1377c / 1077 / 781
2 X .22 B3 / .22 QB362 / Daisy 22sg / No 100, Model 38
Beeman P17 / Beretta PX4 Storm .177 (and 9mm)
Ruger Airhawk .177 / XS-B3-1 (ak-47) .177
