If Your Wife Said Go Ahead
« on: March 30, 2010, 12:06:20 AM »
If your wife gave you the go ahead to push the button on either a Beeman R9 double gold combo or the Benjamin Maurader, what would be the choice you guys would make. My wife said I could have my Birthday and Christmas early and I'm facing that decision and it's killing me.

Well don't let the problem kill you.   Go for the R-9.   Timeless Classic.  Easy to sell if need be.  Complete as a package.   No fuss, No Muss.

You cannot go wrong with an R-9.. Great shooting gun. Less overhead to shoot. Get the PCP next time your wife gives you the go ahead...:)

Well since they are different types (one spring one PCP) I guess it depends on which one you want. If you don't have a PCP yet, you might go for the M-Rod. But then you'll need some form of charging gear (pump, tank hoses) to get started, which will cost more money. The good thing is once you buy the charging equip, you can uses it for other PCP's with little or no modifications except for maybe a different adapter/fitting.  If you already own the charging gear, even better. The good thing about the R-9 is it's self contained and ready to go out of the box. The R-9 home tunes easily, with several aftermarket kits available if you ever want to try your hand at it. Any pro tuner can easily tune your R-9 if you don't want to DYI. So, really the question is what type of rifle will your next purchase be, PCP or spring? Once you decide that then the choice is (relatively) easy.

Hmmm... I already have a charging system so the answer for me is real easy. On the other hand the R-9 is one that will be around forever sorry I ever sold mine and they were cheap then. If you don't have a charging system for the Mrod ( forget the pump ) I'm going to side with the boys and say the R-9. You know maybe you can talk mama into a base model R-9 and a scuba tank with charging adapter ;-). Just a thought.

The first thing I would say is who are you and what did you do with my wife? Lol I looked at pcps and for me all the extra stuff you need to charge it would have to get lugged around with it. So on top of my targets and chair then I would have to carry a scuba tank or pump and blah blah blah lots of stuff. I'd look like I was heading for a day of diving in the swamp with a pellet rifle.

That's why I will be sticking with spring guns and would pick the r-9. Like others have said it's self contained. Just pick up and shoot. Also when I go target shooting I will run through 100 shots easy. That's 3 fills with a pcp. 3 fills equals alot of pumping. These are just my reasons.

Good luck with the choice.

Im with you guys kind of because all i have are springers. But i have had my eye on a mrod for awhile the magazine feature looks very fun and if you dont own a pcp youre wife will have to let you get a tank or a pump an d anything you need to use youre new toy.So the pcp may just be the better gift.imo.

Well Jeff,

I don't know what you have in your cache/ collection ?

If you have what you feel are enough springer's, the Marauder is the air gun for you. Remember that you have to start some where, so why not start now ! If you can shoot it out back, without problems, go for the MRod :)

I have a R-9 Goldfinger and I love her ! And some day I may go for a Marauder ;) I have a Discovery coming soon, so I have started my journey to the DARK SIDE !

You guys have not been a lot of help, just when I think I know which way I'm gonna go, one of you makes a good point the other way. One of these days when you read one of my posts it will say at the bottom, beware of the man who has two guns, because he probably knows how to use them.

Thanks guys, when i make my decision I will send pics.

I looked at the dark side and it's looks nice over there, no hold sensitive, 10 shot repeater, leave it cocked and don't worry, have a springer I like already. I think I'm getting sucked to the dark side.
