Barska Varmit 6-24x42 Mil Dot...
« on: May 30, 2009, 01:27:16 PM »
Bought this scope for FT/ and 50 yard Bench Rest matches....used it once in a Bench rest match shooting at NRA A36 targets at 50 yards...did pretty good with it...lately,been hunting with this scope and it has really worked out good shooting squirrels out around 60 yards or so...
Only draw back using it hunting is you need a good steady rest like a fence post or boulder,etc...not a big deal...

Optics Planet: $75....

Edit: I ordered a Hawke Eclipse 6-24x50 SF (side focus) this morning...time to upgrade...I'll put the Hawke on my FT rifle and review it later...

Lol...since then I've bought two Hawke 6-24x50 SF scopes...and mounted one on my FT rifle (850 HPA .177)...great optic and easy to range with...and learned how to post pics direct...ha ha.

The Hawke is a good value...and you can focus down to 10 yards...

How much better is the hawke than the barska?  do you think it's worth paying the extra money.

Hawke is a very good FT scope...has a much narrower depth of field to range with...so that is biggest difference and why cost is x3 that of the Barska....the Barska makes a nice hunting scope for banging around in the brush...I started out using the Barska for 50 yard benchrest and it was just fine...but for Field Target matches..you need a scope to range with..
