Do these have the same barrel as the old S1000?

They are thin steel liners... You can actually bend the new poly lined barrels by over cocking them which would give you tremendouse droop...:) When they are sent to me for tunes and not double boxed sometimes I get one that looks like it would shoot around the corner..:)

Thanks, Gene! Ran across one for pretty cheap but I will pass on the plastic barrel/breech. If you think about it, all that Gamo is really saving is maybe some shipping costs, since a steel barrel is pretty cheap compared to the plastic/liner.

I recently bought a Whisper X in .177 caliber and I have just fitted a CDT trigger - superb.  After more pellets have gone through it I'lll give it the Maccari  spring and lube treatment.  Possibly this will be one I'll keep for some time.  I read the excellent review of the Whisper posted by Gene and CDT posted on this site a couple of years ago and the results obtained from the rifle speak for themselves. So far I'm pleased with my choice but I was a bit disconcerted to read Gene's comment about Whispers having 'poly' barrels with steel liners instead of solid steel barrels like the older Gamos.  I'd just like to make sure I haven't misunderstood this point.  Do all Whispers have the 'poly' barrels and steel liners or is this an innovation (hardly the right word) which Gamo have recently introduced on the Whisper production line?  If the former, I'll just have to be careful with it.  I'd be interested in your reply, Gene, if you spot this message among the hundreds of others. Many thanks in advance.

Chris, the new Gamo's with the poly liners are ok. The liner's are still rifled but my point was that the barrel as a whole is not as strong as the older Gamo's which had the solid steel barrel's and breech.
