Offshore Drilling shafted again

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce made a list of all of the energy projects canceled or delayed by the federal government through 2009. Americans have been calling for energy independence and a reduction in importation of foreign oil and natural gas.

Earlier this month we heard the White House announcement about the President’s new plan for offshore drilling. The plan proposes to open offshore drilling along the Southern Atlantic coast, a small part of the eastern Gulf of Mexico, and a portion of the coast of Alaska. The American Energy Freedom Center took a closer look at those plans and discovered:

:: No new lands were opened for drilling. All of the areas were opened when President Bush lifted the ban in 2008 and Congress followed with legislation passed in October 2008.

:: The new plan blocks 360 million acres from energy production…that’s 60 percent of the Outer Continental Shelf in the Lower 48 States.

:: The new plan blocks 13.14 billion barrels of oil and 41.49 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. The whole Pacific coast is off limits-another estimated 10.5 billion barrels of oil and approximately 18 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

:: The new plan cancels five Alaskan lease sales that were ready to go and delays 2 lease sales-Virginia and Cook Inlet for at least one year.

:: The whole Pacific coast is off limits-blocking an estimated 10.5 billion barrels of oil, and 18 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. AEFC Chairman George Allen published an oped on the President’s plan for offshore drilling. See it here.

0bama misled us? I can't claim I'm surprised– I wouldn't expect anything less from the current administration.

Yea, though I walk through the garden in the shadows of pests,
I will fear no squirrel: For thou art with me;
thy scope and thy trigger, they comfort me.

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (AFP) –  A blazing oil rig  sank Thursday into the Gulf  of Mexico, sparking fears of an environmental disaster two days after a  massive blast that left 11 workers missing.

US maritime authorities said crude oil was pouring into the sea at the  site where the hulking Deepwater  Horizon rig once stood, although they were unable to determine  at what rate.

Officials said that before the explosion there were 700,000 gallons of  diesel fuel on board the semi-submersible platform and it had been  drilling 8,000 barrels, or 336,000 gallons, of oil a day.

Look, energy independence is good. Off shore drilling might work. But how on earth can you apologize such wasteful behavior of the average American? I just can't see how can you do that with a straight face and sound moral while doing it.

Is it really that hard to decrease consumption?

If i'd say that we should behave more kindly to our living place so everyone can live a bit better you'd probably accuse me of being a socialist/Marxist. What about your children and the community you live in? Socialist ideas? Not in my opinion. I call that common courtesy and being nice to a fellow person.

I mean seriously, if America halved it's transport energy usage, improve heating by insulation, reduce waste,... Would that mean the end of the world? I'm a supporter of "take what you need maybe sometimes a bit more, but don't hog it only for yourself".  As hunters you surely must understand that, how would it look like if only one would be allowed bag unlimited game and the rest can go...you know where...themselves. We live in a community and resources are not unlimited, that doesn't necessarily mean everyone should get an equal  share. No i'm not saying that at all...the more laborious ones should get more, but not that much so the other ones can't get any of it.

I'd really like to hear a comment from a diehard american conservative.
