Screen Capturing / Recording Software ????
« on: May 04, 2010, 02:40:08 AM »

It NEVER ceases to amaze me, the diverse knowledge here on this Forum !!!!

So my question is: What is the best, for the money, or Free, software to save and record to disc,Old T.V shows shown on the Internet ???

I have been reading reviews and advertisements for two nights, and every web site has their own favorites. It's not as easy to find a general consensus on this topic as it is for air guns :o

Any and all help is appreciated, THANK YOU !!!!!!

Hey Bill. Yep, it's amazing the amount of diversity and knowledge this place gathers.

Another of the many reasons I call this place home. But here's what I have or use. If you find something on YouTube, you can use a free site called Keepvid that can be found here. [/b][/i]

If it's not on youTube, you will most likely have to get a commercial program to capture the screen. I've used TechSmith Camtasia with excellent results. TechSmith also makes SnagIt for $39 that can be had here[/b][/i] free as a trial. If you like itandit's user friendly enough for you, then you can purchase the full license.

I've heard of other ways but I won't get into that here.

Good luck and shoot me an email or pm if you need more help or info.

I use Camtasia to make videos of my software programs, for training purposes. It is a very powerful tool.

I think going from YouTube to disk is going to be poor quality, though, because the program started as video, and then got digitized and streamed via YouTube, and now you are going.

If YouTube is your only source for the shows, then Camtasia is a pretty cool program.

Thanks for your input fellow members !!!!!

This topic or subject is much more difficult than I realised. There are hundreds of Screen Saver programs out there, some just for stills, others just for Face Book, and others that do Videos from different sources !

Some are limited to 10 - 15 minutes of recording ? Others will record from one site, but not the other.

One I tested only records 4 frames per second, making the video very choppy, but will record the full video !

This has become a very difficult problem, as most of these shortcomings are not in the product description ! So far I have only been dealing with programs that offer a Free Trial Period ! So that I don't end up spending hundreds of dollars before finding one that performs well for my intended purposes !

Thanks for your input !!!! There is nothing better than some direction to start at. :)
