Need a Mill question?
« on: May 09, 2010, 12:16:40 PM »
i have been in need for a small hobby sized mill for some time and i am down to just making the decision on which one so i thought why not hear from the pro's on the forum here. the mill's i've been looking at are the jet hobby mill JMH-610, the Grizzly G8689 and the sherline 5000 now if i was given no input and had to go off what i see and read on the internet so far i would be getting the grizzly and i know some are going to say why you going so small, because everything that comes to mind i want or need a mill for are generally small parts and my shop could not fit another fullsize piece of machinery so i'm in the market for a bench top not to mention the wife has me on a under $600 budget so please any input or advise would be helpful thanks in advance for everone's help.

I have one from Harbor Freight and it works great. You just need to keep it adjusted and it holds a very close tolerance.
THE ONES I SLEEP WITH: BSA Lightning XL, AA TX-200, AA ProSport, BSA Ultra, HW-97K, Crosman NPSS .177, FX Cyclone, HW-30 Nicle Plated, AA-S200, Crosman Marauder, CZ-634, R-9 DG, Webley/Scott UK Tomahawk, Benji Kantana, Benji Marauder, Benji Discovery.....

Thanks guy's... I placed the order with harbor freight only because I found a coupon that if works should give awesome savings but if it turns out to not work I will be going with the grizzly but I do have one more question. I see there are two different arbor type the grizzly uses the MT3 and the harbor freight one uses the R8 is one better than the other or is there no real preference among users other than I see a great deal of collets and such that say R8 style.

The R8 is normaly used on bigger mills....
It has a two angle tapper ...The MT-X is a
single angle...
Just make sure it has a Draw bolt...Its a MUST
other wise any vibtation in the cutter will losen
the tapper...
