beeman fts double gold?
« on: May 19, 2010, 11:29:15 AM »
New to air gunning and am trying out a lot of different pellets.  Anyone know about these plated pellets?  Do they adequately lube the barrel since they are coated?

Don't need to lube the barrel, lead does that and fill's any imperfections. :) Some guy's do use lubed pellet's but I haven't heard to much from them or result's. I just run the lead through all of my gal's. Ed

Hi Douglas and welcome:) I have AG's the love the Beeman FTS I have tried the fts gold and not noticed any difference although I think nicer looking. IMO the Beeman FTS is my favorite. Beeman FTS are in the pricey pellet group that's for sure, some AG's like coal and some like diamonds:)  I enjoy finding  what pellets works best for each AG experimenting , using chrony it is  part of the fun to me:)
At times I will weigh pellets and group them together in same weights, I have even wash pellets in dish wash liquid and sprayed with pledge in an effort to shoot the perfect target and in some cases makes a big difference.  What I do know is that I only clean my barrel if accuracy changes on an AG and I use goo gone and a cloth patch .. never use wire or brass as it can mess up a good AG.
FYI "Some regular pellets" I have found to be good and uniform straight from the tin/box IMO...are the  Beeman FTS plain / double gold, rws meisterkugeln and Hobby wads,  jsb exacts, crossman CP  7.9gr and the 10.5gr, the new H&N FTS seem good so far not fully tested them yet, Benjamin .177 and .22 are good but i have to wash and pledge em:)  As for lubed pellets I have not seen improvement in fact I think it could effect FPS variation? I think uniform snug fitting non dirty lead pellet is the way to go.  Glad you found the GTA and Good luck with your future air gunning . Tony.

Magnum..  thanks for your reply.  Having a ball with my recently tuned whisper .22.  She definitely loved the beeman FTS and that is why I was wondering if the FTS double gold was as good or better.  Thank goodness (for the pocketbook) she also loves 14.3 grain crossman priemier ultra magnums.  I did not have as much luck with the JSB exacts in my gun.  What did you mean by a dirty pellet?  Are the crossman primiers considered a dirty pellet as I certainly have a residue on my fingers after using them.

Some pellets make your fingers dirty from lead or some type of graphite dust lube! CP's  leave some residue but nothing like the Benjamin Discovery its a good example of a dirty pellet:) I have found them to be a good buy $ and very accurate.  IMO a good wash and small amount of pledge in a jar make them better.
