gamo whisper .22 tune
« on: May 16, 2010, 12:37:36 PM »
I am new to air gunning (at least in my adult life) and am having a great time with it.  I appreciate the friendliness of this forum with newbies.  I know this may sound like a broken record on this site but I can not believe the difference in my whisper since I got it back from a "turbo tune" with the new GRT III trigger.  It is such a transformation that I had to write about it.   I had a chance to shoot the rifle at least 700 times this weekend in the woods in Wisconsin trying out different pellets and taking out some birds, etc.  It is literally a totally different gun.  It is quieter,  with just a firm thunk when shot.  I have not used a nitro piston air rifle yet but I am sure the quick recoil now is much more like that.  There is no rotational spring movement or twang... I mean none!  I was beginning to wonder whether I had lost my shooting touch but now I am deadly accurate getting dime sized groups out to 30 yards.  I wish I had a chronograph to see the speed I am getting now with different pellets.  Does anybody know what the average speed of a 14.3 grain pellet is through the stock spring whisper .22? (not the stated fps)  Interestingly, it does not like the JSB Exacts. ( I thought a lot of the skirts were deformed.  Maybe I had a bad batch)   It loves the Beeman FTS and Crossman Premier Ultra Magnums.  I really could not be more pleased and feel I have a very very good air rifle that is light and did not cost a great deal.    Thanks to Ed.

She was shooting the 14.3 CPHP in the 780fps to 790fps range when she left the shop here, great numbers for a Gamo in .22. Ed

The stock advertised fps is 720fps in the .22 Whisper using lead and it jumps up from there using light pellet's which isn't good for springers but Gamo does it to get the fps numbers and sales numbers up. :0

Those are very good numbers for a 22 Whisper. My air venturi Whisper doesn't come anywhere close to that  even with the lighter 13.4 grain Jumbo RS.

Nice job Ed !
