Last year I went squirrel hunting with another guy on 32 wooded acres that he was taking care of for the landowner.  We started at 7am and after shooting a few squirrels and chipmunks, we did not see any for the last hour, and started making our way towards the cars by the road.  Well as soon as we exited the woods, in those last 30-40yds to the vehicles (and also 10ft from our cars) we saw at least 4-5 of the biggest gray squirrels I have ever seen, just standing there looking at us in very close proximity.  Of course we were too close to the road and a house and couldn't do anything.  It always happens.. which reminds me of the one time I went deer hunting in PA.  After not seeing any deer all day, we walked a couple of miles back to the car parked by the side of the road, and there is a nice 6-pointer with 3-4 does just 30yds away across the street out in the open eye-balling us.  They hung around for a couple of minutes tormenting us.  My friend who knew he couldn't shoot resting on the car or over a road, finally couldn't take it and reloaded his .308.  He then slowly walked across to the other side.  He leaned on a tree and took aim which was still illegal just a few feet from this country road, but then all of a sudden the buck just leaped forward and disappeared into the woods.  Sometimes it is just not meant to be..
