Gamo 1250 conversion to .20 by Rich from Mich
« on: May 14, 2007, 03:09:17 PM »
Okay, I've had a bit of time now to shoot the Gamo 1250 converted to .20
using a Lothar Walther choked barrel a bit and, man! This thing is fantastic!
It averages Crow mags at 915fps and the FTS’s at 960fps and most importantly,
it shoots very straight. Admittedly, I've only shot it at 17 yards, but it’s easy to
Thread multiple shots through the same hole (not all the time, I'm too shaky for that)
at that range.
This new barrel is also a lot straighter than the stock one, I have returned the
scope to almost dead center and set the 5039 mount to "neutral".

The conversion took about an inch off the stock barrel length, so it’s down to 17”
Rich made a very nice full length shroud for it that is threaded onto the tip on the
Barrel the fit is nice and snug and it fastens down good and solid. It did come lose
After about 50 shots, but I've since tightened it down using one of those rubber
Bottle top grip thingy’s and now it’s stayed put. Rich suggested a small “O” ring
Around the breach end to tighten it up against, I think I'll do that.

On the whole, I am very happy with this mod. Now I just need to shave the stock
Down, the short / thick barrel makes the 1250 “feel” even fatter than it already is.
Since a new one only costs $38 from Gamo, I might just try my hand at doing one.
The whole thing needs some serious narrowing out… but that will be another mod.
Here’s a pic of the .177 Extreme with it’s twin, now in .20

Hey Raold, fantastic buddy..:) I have two of his L/W Choked and rifled barrels.. actually I have another one but have not put it on yet. They are .20 and .177 for my S1K's.. One thing about those barrels is that once you dial everthing in and you get a few hundred pellets through them, they are accurate as h__ll...:) I have a Gamo Hunter 1250 Royal .22, but would never alter it..:) Since they do not make them anymore, I just can't see modding it.. But maybe one day I will get one of the new .177's and do a .20 L/W conversion on it..

Keep us posted on how you are grouping out at 40 to 50 yards buddy..

I had this rifle at the "North Texas Shoot and Eat" meet this Saturday and pushed about 150
pellets through it.
I found that it likes both Beeman FTS and Crow Mags. it took me forever it seems to get the
scope zero 'ed in (my bad shooting) for about 60 Pellets, 2 or 3 would look good then I'd get
a 2" flyer.
Then this behavior just stopped and it started shooting straight every time. After getting
about 4 real tight 1" 5 shot groups at 40 yards my cocking arm was about ready to drop off
So I packed it in for the day... but had to drop the Gamo Squirrel target a few times first.
I had failed to drop it at 40 yards the whole afternoon with the 1250, but that last 3 or 4
in a row came easy. Anyhow. This thing is a pile driver. It shoots absolutely flat out to 40 yards.
I'm going to have to take it out to some wide open space so that I check to see how far
it'll go out to and remain accurate.
It's definitely a keeper now, this gun and me are going to get a lot of bunnies    :)

John and I chrony ed it again this past weekend, it's had a lot of pellets through it
now (about 250.177 and another 150 at least since the conversion) and it's settling in nicely.
The muzzle velocities have increased a bit to 980 for Beeman FTS and  950 for Crow mags.
Quite a speed for a .20 springer :)  This is one heck of a pump!
I think the barrels got a bit of a lead lining now, nice and slippery.
I've got some Kodiak's to try and slow it down some. This thing packs one hellava punch.  :D

I spent some time shooting the 1250 again today.I decided to buy some Beeman Kodiak's
to try out. The result is magic! this gun (at 25yds) caneasily make cloverleaf 5 shot groups
I am totally in love with it..... it just needs a serious diet though, the stock is so fat!
It's really uncomfortable to hold and shoot. I spoke to SteveCorcoran this week about making a
"real" stock for it. He agreed and will be making it a variation of his QB Sporter stock for it
take a look here: http://www.woodsandwateroutdoors.com/images/Grips_and_Stocks/qb/resized/qb78sport7_800x320.jpg

This should make the world of difference to the gun, I can't wait :)

Roald, that is the most ugly gun I have ever seen, better just send it to me so you can get it out of your sight.  If you have already paid Steve for the stock, better to have him send that here also, you will have no need of it anyway since I will be shielding you from the ugly, ugly, ugly gun.  What are friends for:)
