Mendoza .177 vs Quest 1000 phone book test
« Reply #17 on: January 15, 2007, 04:05:28 AM »

1. No cover page

2. Take out advertisements

3. Rubber band or tape outside pages closed

4. Count torn pages, not dented ??? [pellet point stop may be more accurate] I counted that also.

5. Distance: one meter

6. formula: 25 pages =1 ft lb.

MendozaRM600: .177- Kodiak heavy, 10.6grains= 613 pagestorn. Pellet point stop 523

Crossman Quest 1000: .177 -Premier HP, 7.9 grains =502 pages torn. Pellet point stop 402.

Both pellets deformed well.

Pellet tip penetration seems more accurate if 25 pages = 1 ft lb.

ex: Mendoza Pellet point stop: 523 pages= 20.9 ft lbs at one meter.

My old Shadow puts out CPHP's at just about 900fps, it tore 580 pages. So, assuming that the results of our highly controlled experiments are valid, your Quest is a little on the weak side.

I don't have any Kodiaks, but I did try Premier Domed 10.5gr, and only got torn pages up to about 470. The Kodiak looks like it has a sharper point, but I really don't think the Shadow would've come close to 600+ pages!

I sure wish you had access to a chrony...

I had a Mendoza RM622 which is the .22 caliber version. It didn't shoot anywhere near what it was advertised. Mine shot 650fps with oil in the hole and when it dried out after just a few shots, it went down to 525fps.

The Rm622 is an older version and not made anymore. According to Matt at Cobra the power plant was smaller than the new rifles.

Glad you caught that Dave. It is the RM 600 and not the RM622 that Robert mentioned. It would be really great if those guys would take one out of the box and run it on the Chrony for us with medium wt. pellet so we would know for sure... hehe

Thanks

I’ve called around Eugene Only one place may do a chrono and no how to interpret it. I can buy an f1 chrono for $89-. But I have never used one before. I will keep trying. It seems like I'm the only frig'n person on the net who wants to find out the exact specs.

It isa copy of the RWS 350 as told to me by Cobra. But the 350 advertisements don't seem to match the personal reviews here.

Independent review of the RWS 350.

I have a Diana 350 and all my crony readings are higher for the same pellets which I have  than shown by Straightshooters.  I have a Beta chrony.  Don't know that it proves anything, other than maybe all of them don't register the same velocity. Slight difference between each rifle. FN

Ya Frank

The F1 chrony does have a 1 percent variable. It tells you this in the papers that come with the chrony.  So one chrony compared to another could be a difference of 1%.. And you can find a new F1 Chrony for $59.94 at: DNRSports
