Tree Rat Hunt Comin Up
« on: June 01, 2007, 02:27:58 PM »
I've been so busy with work and errands past few days I haven't been able to do any pest hunting.  However,,, for the past 2 days I've noticed a new batch of tree rats going after my bird feeders and damaging them, so  tomorrow after work I'll be doing some backyard huntin to thin out the herd again.

I don't have a clue where all these squirrels are comin from, and I wouldn't bother them if they'd just eat the seed and leave the feeders alone, but for some reason they are just intent on damaging the feeders so I'm going to break out the 1250 .22 cal and go to war.

I'll post some pics if I get any.

Jeff,
If they are like those here, it is are a mystery where they come from.
My problem at my old house seems to have gone away, but now
I have a swarm of bees setled in.
Not the Lumber bees, these are some sort of honey bee (I think).
They are in the soffit of the house.  They got angry when I was
opening the soffit to clean out the limb-rat nests.

Good luck on the limb-rats in the feeders.

Thanks Gordon, I'm going to be selective and only take out the ones that I see doing the damage.  Plan on setting up my pop up blind so I can do surveillance to make sure I'm taking out the right rats.  :)

Be careful with those bees, they can be a handful when angered.  Last time I had a problem like that I bought this flying insect killer from Home Depot that worked great.  Best part was you could stand like 20 feet away and blast the target area with a steady stream of chemical.  I sprayed the heck out the nest then ran like the dickens inside the house.  Stuff worked well, killed em all.

Hi Jeff,

Good luck on your upcoming hunt !

And those squirrels, well they need to constantly chew, like all rats (rodents), to wear down there front teeth. Otherwise there teeth will grow through the top and bottom of there mouth. So don't be too selective buddy, the tree rat you kill today will not be the one eating into your attic tomorrow. And those squirrel, they bread like rats ! LOL

Best of luck on your hunt Jeff.

I cannot tell you how much I envy your continually returning pest animals.  I have been talking with Kevin (my airgun buddy) and we're beginning to thing we culled the herds too much last year.   Very slow year so far.

Have a good time and give em some led for me!

Thanks Greg,,,  I got home from work  later than usual this afternoon but I was on the look out for the pesky squirrels, especially since when I pulled into my driveway the first thing I saw was yet another feeder damaged and lying on the grass.  There goes another $30 bucks  :(

I only saw one of the little bandits but he saw me first and beat feet to the nearest tree, but instead of hiding in the branches like they usually do he raced for the top of the tree and then raced from one tree to another until he was off my property and into the woods behind my yard.  I could swear he knew my intentions  :)

Tomorrow is another day though so the game continues.

You Have that right Jeff,

That's what makes hunting so great, just can't seem to get rid of the little critters !

But don't let that bother you Jeff, critters are almost free, except for the feeders !

But that unlimited supply of free targets isn't bad either. ;-)

The Best of Luck out there tomorrow Jeff.
