New CFX .22 MV
« on: June 18, 2007, 03:15:01 AM »
Have about 200 pells through it, but it will only push CPLs at around 600. Wide variance from 585 to 625 fps. Is my spring already broken? It this the excuse I was looking for before sending it off to Bob for a T&T (Tune and Trigger) ?

It all depends on the pellets for the variance. I think your spring is just fine for now. I could see you start worrying if it was 100 fps or more deviation. Try some predators or crow mags and see if it can tighten up the spead some more.

I agree with Jason, try some different pellets.  I know a lot of people swear by them, but I've never had good results with CPL's and Gamos.  They always shoot slow for some reason, and not very accurate.  Add Superdomes to Jason's list, I was getting 680's with them yesterday, and I know I haven't hit 200 shots yet.  Do you have any heavier pellets, like Kodiaks?  Sometimes 10 or 12 heavies will settle a gun right down, just don't make a habit of them, they can/will eat springs.  Good luck, and keep us posted.

Dave's also right. Add some super domes. Iwas just mentioning the predators and crow mags becasue i know they tightened up the deviation in my shadow from a max of 65 fps (cpl) and when I used the predators it went to 13 max spread.

You can try other pellets, but with Premiers it oughta be doing a bit better than that.

You might wanna toss a few Gamo Match through it. Those should shoot in the upper 600's

I'm still hoping that someone will suggest that I send it off right away to Bob for the T&T. Come on guys, all I need is a little push.

Hey, I hate to twist your arm, Bill, but if it was me, I'd send it off to Bob for a Turbo Tune and GRT III trigger :-)!  Come to think of it, I did exactly that last year when the spring in my .177 CFX let go.  But try to be prepared, you will NOT get the same gun back that you send off.  I know, the serial number will be the same, but I'm pretty sure Bob actually swaps these things with a source he has in an alternate universe.  That's my story, and I'm sticken' to it ;-)!

Thank you bullseye and daved, thats all I needed. Emailed Bob and I guess he has recovered from the SC party and is ready to get back to work. If the change in the CFX is anything close to what it was with the S1K he did for me, it is well worth the money. I will let you know how it turns out.
