Honestly I have a hard time seeing a dime sized target at 40 yards and that is with my GA scopes. The 3" Birchwood Casey shoot-n-see target packs come with dime and qaurter sized dots. I can hit the dime sized once or twice at 40 yards but after that it kind of depends on the day I am having.... kind of like Gene was talking about how those days are few and far between.

depending on the gun type and shooter 1" @ 40 would be acceptable to me.

I agree with Jason. Depending on the springer used a one inch pattern would be a good tight group. Now there is those PCP's.... Which can hold even a tighter group.

We had a quarter shoot about 6 months or so back. I think Ed aka Shadow just about shot all the quarters in South Dakota.. Do a search and check out the pic's.
