A Real Hunter

I happened to glance out my window and saw a real hunter at work in my neighbor's yard. I popped out my front door with my camera and shot a couple of photos, but my camera only zooms to 3x, so the shot isn't great. I tried to get closer, got within about 20yds. and she flew off with her prey in her talons. Awesome.......a tree rat put to good use.

Those fellows and galsseldom hang around long enough for us to see them, let alone get a photo. I always love to see the best of nature at work !

That reminds me of an incident a few months ago. Was drivin on a country road comin home from CDT's. And one swooped down along side of my car on the left, snatched a snake off the shoulder of road and kept on going. I was doin about 35 mph and he crossed the road above and in fromt of me out about 30 yards with snake hangin in his talons. That was awsome..:)

Hey I think I know his brother!!!   This guy has been working my place about two years. I guess hunting is good around here. I was lucky enough see him snatch a dove last fall. They are a real treat to watch .  This was the only picture I was able to get, he hits and runs quickly. He is around so often my wife wants to named him. Any ideas??????

I saw a red tail hawk land on a Fox Squirrel years ago.
What an incredible sight.

We should call you lucky,  photo op's like that don't happen often.  Nice pic.

Just be thankful  there  are not more of them killing tree rats, otherwise most of us would not have anything to shoot at.

There are a couple of pairs of such birds that routinely hunt at the duck farm I shoot at and they certainly are amazing creatures.  I wish I had a fraction of their hunting savvy and abilities.  

I've tried to get a pic several times but never manage to get close enough.  Enjoyed your pic !!

I have tried scores of times to get decent photos of raptors, and they are just too freakin' wary!
Only once did I ever get a decent photo of one, a young female red tail hawk sitting on a car.
I think I will dig that up and post it.
