Bob,

Fun gun to play with, has a nifty 8 round rotary mag. Something that the QB needs.... Box stock the gun shoots around 700 fps in .177. You can get some more out of it with a stronger longer hammer spring. And there have been a few guns out there where the stock hammer spring gets weak so power goes down after a few hundred shots. Umerex had a waiting list for the refurbs there I dunno if they have gotten more in but the gun was selling for about 150-60 for the refurb. It is a decent gun but I am still waiting for the mods to get it up to the MM tuned QB's performance level. Like I said what makes the thing fun to shoot is the magazine..... which the .177 Qb's dont have. Hmmm come to think of it I need to holler at MaxZ to find out if he ever finished making his .177 magazine for the QB. Accuracy is very good, the trigger is decent and for a plastic stocked gun its fun stuff.

Been some people converting them to run on 9oz. paintball tanks (ditch the detachable fore end, mod the stock a bit, and get an AS to PB adaptor)  Internal mods. seem to be centered on spring force, at least so far...suspect it's not nearly as mod. friendly as QB's.

Usually not a big fan of "wack the valve harder" as the only way to more power...the .22 versions seem closer to advertized vel. than the .177's and I'd probably be happy if it could be easily gotten to an honest 650fps.

Internal debate: Might be a winter project...then again, other than the magazine, what would it do that a QB79 wouldn't?  Do i need that magazine.

I keep lookin at em, but the weather here is getting cold so no sense in me buying one now.  I'm better off saving my pennies and waiting until the spring.  If I'm gonna buy it I'm gonna want to hunt with it so buying one in the winter time here is pointless for me.....

Hehe Jeff you could buy one now and then get it ready for the spring :). Yes people have been going to 9oz tanks with the adapter, but in bone stock out of the box or even with the hammer spring mod you are still getting around 160 shots off of one as can. People of course have done some HPA converts to them to... The 2 I have access to I have been watvhing the mods on them and have had some input on them also, a little valve work was done and we are fixing to do some barrel work also in the port area. We have the main mod gun shootin around 775 to 800 fpsin .177 with minor mods so to me thats fairly respectable. What makes it nice to me is the magazine I just like being able to pull the bolt back and cycle pellets in hehe call me lazy!!!

Well Bob, you've seen the review I did on mine:

http://www.gatewaytoairguns.com/airguns/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=4543&mid=31881#M31881

Velocity was as advertised and accuracy is well above average. This is the best money I have spent so far.
It's only draw back is that it goes through pellets at an alarming rate ;-)

Yep... I can see going through a lot of pellets. But at the same time, you should be slowing down just a little allowing for the temperature of the gun to stabilize and warm up between shots. I'm still kicking it around though. Now that you have had yours awhile, have you found any "con's" about it???

None at all Bob. and the slow sooting to allow things to warm up does not seem to bother the 850 at all.
I think the larger areas and distance between the bottle, valve and breech prevent this form being as much of an issue as some of the other CO2 guns.
I can pump out 3 of 4 shots in rapid secession and not have much of a velocity drop at all. (maybe 5fpa)
The only co is the pellet consumption and the AS can consumption. The paintball 9oz tank fixes that though.
At$2.00 a fill it's not an issue.

How is accuracy? Will it pop a squirrel at 40 -45 yards? Do they make a .22 version? thanks John

PCP accuracy at 40 yards, I got a duck at 40 yards.... does that count? :emoticon: it was a head shot... I pop rats at 25 yards at my feeder every night. They come in both 177 and 22. The 22's can be made to do 700fps pretty easily. My 177 is doing around 800fps now.
Go here to find out more, they have a pretty good information and a mods forum:

Charlie,

Just Nike up and buy it.  For the money, it is the most fun airgun there is.  What a blast.  The 8 shot magazine makes shooting quick and enjoyable.  The rifle is pretty darn accurate.  I converted mine to a 9 oz. paintball tank.  Easy and so much more affordable.  You won't regret it.  I can't believe no other manufacturer has cashed in on the ease of shooting angle.
