Hi I'm new at spring rifles and am learning a lot I have a big cat so far it's been very good I know the trigger needed work and I just ordered one on bob's triggers but right now i did some work to get better accuracy on th cat I recrowned it as well as lap fireing it and took out the trigger and polished it on a rag wheel with jewlers rouge it's a lot better about 2 1/2 lbs pull not as good as my 22 lr but  ok  at 10 yds using a  bench rest I get about a 1/2 " group I took it to the range last week and at 50 yds it was not as tight a group as I would have liked but I found out the 3x9 x32 bushnell scop had gone bad so it's back to the gamo scope and the accuracy came back so does anyone have any experence with the 2 to 7 power bsa scopes made for air rifles I'm looking at a bsa 2-7 x32 bronze scope .

Hi Howard,

Welcome to GTA.  I don't own that particular BSA scope but I do own numerous other BSA scopes and have never had a problem with them.  I'm sure one of the other members with experience with that scope will chime in soon.  

I just wanted to welcome you to the GTA.    Will be looking forward to your futurer posts,,, and if you hunt make sure you post the stories and pics in the "Hunting Gate".  We just love hunting stories and pics......

Hi Jeff thanks for the comeback one other thing  today I picked up a sponge covered in terry cloth at walmartin the auto parts it's for washing your car.  it makes a great pad to go between your sand bag at the range , I have been shooting my big cat in the garage using a step ladder for a bench rest this spong makes the rifle flot very nice and taked any hand pressure off the rifle helps to get better groups I am hopeing the trigger from bob will help too what I am looking for is 1 ragged hole under 3/8 inch at 10 yds. the next time I get to the range I'm looking to get very tight groups at 25 and 50 yds. how tight does anyone else get at those distances?

I can truly say that you will be absolutely amazed at the difference that Bobs trigger will make.  As for what kind of accuracy you can get out of an airgun,,,, it of course depends on quite a few factors as you are well aware, however that being said I can honestly say that all my airguns are used for hunting and they all provide the accuracy I need for accurate hunting shot placement.  Some guns of course give much tighter groups than others but my "worst" guns give me quarter sized groups at 30 to 40 yards.  My "best" gun will give me one ragged hole groups or close to it at the same distance.   As for 50 yards,,, I don't really shoot at 50 yards, my self imposed limit for hunting  is usually 40 yards or less.  I have shot further on occassion, but for the most part I try to stay 40 yards and under, and in actuality most of my hunting shots are probable 30 yards of less..    Some of the other members may routinely target shoot at 50 plus, they would be better qualified to speak about accuracy at those distances.....

That's one of the things I really like about air guns,,, the challenge of shooting them well.   I'm sure you will have no problem attaining the accuracy level you are looking for once you install Bobs trigger and practice with your Big Cat.

Hi Jeff Im going to try to put in a pic of my groups at abou 10 yds it's a little short of 10 yds since my garge is not 33 ft long.

When I got the cat I tries crossman wadcutter pellets and crossman dome pellets thats all walmart sold the groups were not very good but I tried the rapters that came with ths cat and they wern't much better so I looked on line about pellets and found .pyramydair.com and ordered baracuda match pellets what a difference they shoot great now with bob's trigger upgrade I am looking for 1 ragged hole , this is what I want out of my 22 lr too the  other rifle I'm working on too, I would like to see both rifles fit 5 rounds in 1/2 inch at 25 yds and 3/4 inches at 50 yds. so far this pellet has been the best I have used.

Howie, I have a Big Cat I bought about a month ago and am very fond of it and amazed at the accuracy of this rifle for the money. I now have a GRT-III trigger in mine and it is, as usual a vast improvement over the Gamo Trigger.

Hi I have the cat about a mounth too and have put about 2500 rounds through it so far as I said earlyer I did some tune up work on it and have just ordered the new trigger from charliedatuna I took the old trigger out and polished it up with a rag wheel and rouge also relived the tension on the trigger return spring and took out the adjustins screw it dosne't do anything anyway , it's better than the factory trigger set up but if bob's trigger is going to ba at about 1 1/2 lbs it will be a lot better shootin their is a long squeeze till it goes off even if it's much smoother . the pic i put in of my group the ring inside is only 1/2 inches in dia. what i'm looking to be able to do is put 5 rounds all in one ragged hole howie

A BIG WELCOME Howie. I have the a couple of the BSA 2-7X32AO scopes and they are great for me out to 30 yards. I have older eyes so I need more power for those 40 yard and further shots..:) But for the money I would buy a couple of 3-9X32AO Tasco Golden Antlers. They are even better I think. At least for me out to 30 yards. No dought you have made a wise choice on the Gamo Big Cat..:) With a little TLC they can become a great shooter. Peak and Jeff surely know a good shooter when they shoot one..:)

The cat took out a bushnell 3-9x32 and i have found that the 3 power works fine in the garage the 4 x 32 gamo is a little hard to get to focus a short ranges the 3 was better but the 9 power was better at 50 yds like my marlin 22 lr at 50 yds. I'll probley go back to a 3-9x32 . I got the cat at bassPro in ft. lauderdale , it looked like a quality gun also since I've been looking over the shadow line as well as most of the orther Gamo prods. I wonder if they are all the same with different stocks and small changes like barrel length. do you know if the seals are leather or not ? I used to fire centerfire rifles and I was a barman in the marines back in 1957 we shot 30/06 in the m1 garands at 200 yds offhand/ 300 yds sitting&knelling and 500 yds prone all with iron sights it's alot different with a scope. you have to qualify every year in the corps not just shoot but qualify marksman, sharpshooter or expert, most of the time I came in low expert or sharpshooter thats probley I ended up being a barman. Since I'm retired this gives me a chance to get shooting again with the cat it's not a big deal , shooting the spring rifles are different I'm glade I did some checking on shooting methods used with spring rifles or I wouldn't be able to hit anything like letting the rifle float in your hand and not holding it too tight. if you don't choke it it shoots great.
