Shooting table
« on: August 04, 2006, 08:55:21 AM »

I want to get one of these. Can anyone identify it?

It looks like it can fold up, and has a nice big table top.

It may not be  a shooting bench, but  it fills the bill for me.

This is a picture from a Westfield [Mass] gun club meet .

 Any help would be appreciated

after doing a little research, I think the guy who put the picture up was Bill Pratt, who uses the handle FTduffer.

Heard of him?

That's one good looking table. Yea it looks like it will fold up and roll away. Mine was made out of a cheap work brench and some plywood, put carpet on top just for looks, and to keep from scratching my pellet, guns that is LOL

I got ahold of a gentleman named David Day, who built it, and was told the base was a Black and Decker Workmate with a plywood top with a 2x4 attatched to the bottom, that was then clamped in the top jaws.

I can't find the model Workmate that he used in the picture, and hope he can get back to me with whatever info is on the unit, but the WM 375 with handtruck [retail $79.95 at Aubuchon] is close, and would probably work with a little change to the shape of the top.

I still working on it.

I looked upt the Black and Decker WM375 One-Handed Folding WORKMATE. It is the same base as you stated. But the top looks like a molded plastic top. Does not look like wood. Sure glad you have found the source on this Ed. I am gonna go out and try to find one of these localy in preperation.

They sell them on line for around $70.00.

The top is used to hold down a plywood top he cut to the shape he wanted.

He attached a 2x4 to the bottom of the plywoodand clamped this in the "vise jaws" which is the plastic top or the workmate.

He put down some in/out carpet, and cut and cemented plastic pipe insulation around the edge.

My problem is with the legs and how they are when it is set up, and how it folds. The one he has has s clearly superior geometry forclearance and table-top orientation, imho.

The WM375 will probably work, just not as effectly.

If you dont want to pay for a B & D workmate at 70+ , you can do like I did,  My generic work mate cost me 12.99 at pepboys,  used a piece of 3/4" plywood, a little glue and a piece of carpte.  made a hole in it for a carring handle.  sets upeasly and if fairly stable. Only thing different, I made my permanet, I put blocks under the table and screw thru the holes in the original top into the wood under the top. Then put the carpet on top.  works good for a inexpensive shooting table.  OH , one more thing, I went to homedepto and got some plastic holes, that  you put wires thru , piece of metal onthe bottom , makes for a nice pellet holder, just in case your like me and nkock them off the table.

:)

I want a light, table that I can modify to suit me perfectly, and that is easily portable.

I don't mind the $70 if I can get what I want. I'd like two--one for me, and one for my son when he comes over. The metal frame should lower the weight for compareable stiffness considerably. Its original application would make it well suited for a strong pedestle of a load-bearing table.

A mostly wooden setup would be too bulky and heavy.

I'm going to see if someone will sell me an old 375 in the newspapers or Craigs list.

You know of anyone with one to sell?:) )

Do you have a picture Buster? I always knock my pellets off the table..:)  I have been thinking of what I could make to sit on the side of my table to hold the pellets.. :)

I like the idea of it being portable. Just throw it in the trunk and off hunting I go... he he

May have to spend more to get what Ed has shown us..
