Duck Double Header
« on: December 14, 2007, 12:47:24 PM »
Right off the bat I have to say this is not an airgun kill,,,, it was accomplished with a 12 guage shooting #2 Steel shot,,,,, so I know it doesn't  "really" belong here,,,,, but I'm just so proud of the shot I had to post it.    Please forgive me  :)

That being said here's the story.........

Got home from work this afternoon later than usual, almost 3:45 but I had just enough time to grab the 12 gauge and head to the duck farm to ambush some ducks that like to fly into this one large freshwater pond just before sunset. I set up in a good spot near the pond, taking into account the wind direction, and waited.   I had about 20 ducks swoop into the pond without me getting a shot and time was running out.  You can legally shoot up to 30 minutes after sunset and I only had a few minutes left.  All of a sudden a small flock of about 12 birds started circling the pond, lowering their altitude each time they swung around.  Their 3rd swing around brought them directly overhead at a distance of 35 yards.  I brought the gun up quick, swung the barrel past the first bird in the flock and pulled off a single shot.  At the shot the first bird instantly crumpled and started to fall and so did the the bird right next to him and a little behind.  A double header  !!!  :)     Both Birds slammed into the muddy ground of the duck pen with a loud thump.   I've killed a lot of ducks over the years, but  this was my first double header.   Had the daughter take a few pics when I got home.   I apologize again for posting a non airgun kill, but even though I will freely admit the shot was pure luck I just had to post the pics...   :)

Jeff,

The only way you could surprise me, is to take three deer with one arrow ! or three squirrels with one pellet !

You and Ed are just excellent shots and hunters, and I don't think I be too surprised if you someday did the above ! ;-) Maybe tomorrow ?

And thanks for sharing this with us, they will make a great Sunday dinner !

Great account of your hunt, great photos, and Great Big Smile there !!!
