RWS 850 - Umarex AirMagnum .177 or .22
« on: December 21, 2007, 09:37:12 PM »
Hello,
All this talk of the RWS 850, it's badged as a Umarex AirMagnum in the UK, has got me thinking and I am going to cross the river Thames into enemy territory, Es*_*_*_*_*_* and buy one tomorrow  :emoticon:
But what calibre? I am edging towards the .177 for the flatter trajectory but my final arbitrator is how the pellets are fed into the breech. I have heard of a few jamming issues and wondered which calibre is most friendly. Does anyone here have any experience?
regards,
Alan :)

I just received an 850 for export and have the owners permission to give it a work out and see what it's like, if you can hold off for a day or two I'll let you know what it's like, in .22............

If and when I get my second 850, it will be a .22... Then I will change it over to a PCP. Still shooting my .177 and I am on my third co2 bottle..:) Not one misfire  yet or any problems so far.

Good Luck Alan.. Will be waiting for your review Mike..

Gene,,,, just wondering what kind of FPS you're getting with the 850 ??   :o

I'm almost ready to push the "order" button but am on the fence about which caliber to get....  I'm leaning towards the .177 for the simple reason that winters here are to cold for routine C02 use so that means it'll be a summertime gun.    Summertime gun for me translates into birds at the duck farm so hence I'm leaning towards the .177,,,,, but if the .22 FPS is respectable then I might go that way.   Thanks.....

Jeff, I checked it after shooting it for a couple days and was getting between 750 and 760. I forget the exact numbers but she was within 10 fps deviation with CP's. I shot 10 through the chrony at that time. I was in my shop with K-1 heater going and it was at least 70 degres or higher in there..:) I have found that is a great place to shoot from when I want to shoot the 850 when it is cold outside..:) Guess that is cheating but it works..:) Also I have been shooting at a 20 yard target and keeping it in a one inch group. I get kinda bored and I pick up one of my springers for a while and then go back to the 850..:) It is not quite as accurate as my FX Cyclone but close at 20 yards..:) I think the biggest difference you will find between the 850 and your QB's is that you do not load one pellet at a time. The cocking is smooth and easy on the 850..:) So that means when you are hunting that you do not have to reload when one of the critters runs off...:) Which I am sure you do not have that problem with your dead on marksmanship..:)

Hope that helps

Thanks Gene,,,,, sounds like it will be perfect for birds at the duck farm   :D

The fact that your FPS is right where the advertised FPS for the gun is listed at just sealed the deal for me......... time to push a button    :)

Dang Alan, that is over $400.00 American.. I paid $192.00 shipped and yes that does make me feel good..:) By the way I have bought two more amo clips, so now I get 32 shots per load now. Very easy to change the clips also.:)

Indeed Gene. Can you here me crying? I am not sure what the reg's are on importation of airguns but I expect my government won't like it  :emoticon:
I have lived in the United States, Arizona to be precise and I always enjoyed wonderfully cheap prices on some goods when compared to central London.

Well your pounds are twice the worh of ours now, so when you come visit again bring your golf bag and take back a couple air rifles for the price of one in London..:) A couple years ago I bought a Gamo CFX .22 Royal from the UK and at that time it was not a bad deal. Could not buy them here. If the golf bag won't work then I can send you the pieces in some pastries that I make..:)

Hi Jeff, glad to see that you are interested in the 850... if you get one be sure to stop by"The850 Resource" We have awhole site full of info on how toget the most out of your 850... without breaking the bank.
I've sent Gene some "upgrade" hammer springs that he can experimant with, but that should get him up around 800fps (in warm weather).
