question has anyone or has anyone heard of taking a coyote in a humane mannor with a air rifle. my deal is i have a coyote problem where i live and they are not shy. they will come within 30yds of my back porch....mainly at night when the report of a powder powered gun would be a problem ...i personally think a well placed p.b.a with my viper would do the trick at that range....any opinions would be appreciated.....thanks

I've heard of that, and a well placed headshot should do it, but I would use .25 caliber to make it safe and humane. Check out the new Walther Falcon Hunter Edition in .25 for $267 on the Pyramyd Site. I'm thinking that the Walther in .25 could do it at 30yrds.

I'd mention the Diana 350M and the Webley Patriot but both of those are way more *expensive*(yikes!!!)than the Falcon.

A headshot it must be, because I've taken plenty of shots at coyotes, and they just jump and run. At the time, they were too far away to hit in the head so I went for body center to show them that when they come into my range, there's a sting. They've killed the neighbors cats and I use that as an excuse for shooting my airguns. "I'm tryin ta keep em away" is what I say and they like the fact that I'm protecting their cats. But not all the neighbors have cats...so I have to be vigilant for Officers...

that is my problem ....my wife is afraid of losing her cat...and its just a matter of time cause i have alot of these coyotes running around out there along with the raccoons....i can fire my gun from inside the house ...via the sliding door and get away with the report of my airguns.....and the wife will tolerate that more than me firing my 22 from inside the kitchen....he he

sounds like...the perfect excuse for a new airgun...if you have to justify it. You are right, its just a matter of time. And there's raccoons too, double bad!!!

Raccoons are not welcome in my backyard...they took 13 of my baby turtles that I hatched in an incubator. Nasty critters those raccoons, they just burn me up. I've got a motion detector set up to tell me when they are out there, but nothing so far, after they saw me commin at em with a sword!!!

I wouldn't recommend a .177 for yotes at that distance unless you are Ed (aka Shadow) hehe. On game that size  even a well placed head shot is going to require probably 12-14 fpe at the kill zone. If you are having good luck with the PBA at that range congrats it does't work in any of my guns. If you choose to try it with a .177 I recommend JSB Predators or Crosman Destroyers. JMO

Oh, I'm good at comin up with those excuses, because I have to justify the purchase if my wife is home at delivery time.  Otherwise she doesn't notice that there's a new airgun in the collection.  Thats part of the beauty of having a "collection"...the wife doesn't notice anything new.  So you just set things up for delivery when she wont be around.  I've even met the carrier in front of my house so that they don't have to ring the doorbell.  I can go thru the backyard gate, get the package, and stash it in the garage real quick if she's home.  My obsession has me jumpin hoops let me tell ya!!!

Right on!!! Your wife gets in on the action!!! Maybe you don't have to be so careful like I do then, but lets just say that if did need to be careful you can always say...the viper wont do it, the bigcat wont do it, I need something with .25 caliber in order to take these coyotes/raccoons out humanely. What about Mountain Lions?

Coyote's got some thick skull's and and that would be your best place for a shot placement with a magnum .22 or higher cal. airgun. As like most animal skull's there's a wide opening behind the eye and the bone thickness is thinner behind the eye and into the brain cavity. There are opening's for the eye socket muscle etc to run through and placeing a shot through here would shatter the inner shell behind the eye and enter the fusebox. The pellet selected would need to penatrate the eye, no problem then hit and shatter bone to enter the brain. The Predator has the ability to do this, I tested .22 cal's out on a cow skull with the Crosman TAC1.22 at 40yrd's. Five shot's into the side of the skull around the eye socket, all went through the inner skull plate and two exited out the other side. If attempted, make sure you got the time, shot placement and airgun to start and finish the job and most of all the ability. Not saying no one doesn't but watching a animal  suffer will stick in one's mind for awhile. If you take a look at a past hunt by one of our great fellow Airgun hunter's (DAMAGE)in the Hunting Gate, he dropped a deer with a CFX.22. SHOT PLACEMENT! the creed of our hunter's here. Now I will be recieving what I like to call " THE MONSTER" !, she's tuned, mean and a workout just to cock but I think that together we will have the varment's running scared hehehe. I threw up a pic so that you got a idea of what's behind the mask, good luck and happy hunting. Ed

Not to be a party pooper, cz makes a nice 22, use subsonic ammo and you easily get enough power. My buddies grandpa does it a different way but it is very inhumane. Good luck, John

Yep, youve got a point there Ed, no one wants to see an animal suffer, so you have to get it right. And so you bring up another good point too...a CFX .22 could do the job at 30yrds...and its less expensive than the Walther Falcon, and its a really nice shooter and it gets even better with a GRT-III trigger...I know because I have a CFX .22.

But I just went to Pyramyd to price them and the .22cal is not there no more.... :-(
