I finally did it! I ordered my whisper...
« on: February 04, 2008, 07:11:56 AM »
I finally ordered my Gamo whisper today from midwest south (cheapest place I could find).

I am still a bit hesitant since I am not used to spending that much for a pellet gun (used to all the little ones I had as a kid).

the plan is to run a few tins through it (provided the scope isn't crap, I have heard some bad stories on here) then send it off to charlie for the whole deal.

I am happy but nervous. Glad to have one more pellet gun, but nervous it gets to me okay and works well.

Not to worry Mark I'm sure it will arrive o.k. You just need to break the ice and buy a 500 dollar plus springer then all the others will come with less hesitation. Just be sure when you get her check all the screws. Clean the barrel good wipe her down mount the scope if not already on there. Be prepared for some loud first couple shots then she should settle in nice make sure to get a trigger from CDT it wil make it nicer to shoot untill the tune. Good Luck and post your thoughts after you have had a chance to get to know her.
Jason
A couple of Springers nothin to get excited about.

Congrat's Mark and the Gamo's have the promise to be a great shooter, even better with a tune and trigger. Now after the tune she may like a dfferent pellet then before so be ready to scratch your head and mess with different pellet's. Ed

Congratulations Mark,

Ounce you receive your newshooter, I'm sure that you will calm down. :emoticon:

If you consider the real value of money, we spent almost as much then, as we are now. And tomorrow you'll think you made a great deal.

Let us all know your impressions after you receive your Whisper.

I jumped in neck deep 13 years ago and bought an RWS 48 which cost a good penny more than these Gamo guns.  I too was hesitant to pay $225 for an inexpensive gun.... but let me tell you.  My Whisper arrived today and I'm beside myself.  After cleaning her up I was capable of shooting quarter sized groups at 30 yrds using the stock scope.....  IN THE DARK at that.  Not bragging but I will tell you that it grouped better than my RWS that's equipped with a better scope.  I'm sure you'll love the gun once you get it.

Congrats!!!!

Good luck with the Whisper, I am sure you will like it as I did. Do a search on the forum for "whisper" and see all of us that have the rifle, see what pellets shoot the best through it etc., there is a lot of info right here on the forum. I installed the GRT-III trigger myself today and will do a mini review later. But I like it. If you have any questions email me!

I too have a new GRTIII waiting to be installed into my Whisper.  I really wanted to get the gun broke in before changing out the trigger.  So far I'm happy with the gun despite the long and mighty trigger pull.  Although I will say that after shooting maybe 100 CPL through the Whisper I had issues returning to my RWS.  With the RWS I was snapping off shots way before I expected them to go.  LOL  I was slowly pulling that trigger waiting as I was with the Gamo but there was now wait.

I remember spending $109 on my first "adult" air rifle.  My wife thought I was crazy, boy she didn't know the half of it.  Wait till you have 2-3 "adult" air rifles and plop down a big chunk of change and still have to shell out $250 for a pump to pump it up.  It gets easier, you learn to live on pork and beans, and of course it's ok that the kids will have to wait till they are 30+ before you can send them to college......but you'll be grinnin' ear to ear:)

Do yourself a favor and throw the trigger in now, don't wait it is worth it. Bent, if you are shooting quarter size groups at 30 yards without the trigger in, you are my hero. I just yanked everything rightish trying to squeeze that monster stock trigger. My Whisper without a tune really likes the expensive Predator pellets. I shot a crow at work a week ago when I was showing the gun to the guys. Hit him right in the back of the neck with RWS hobby from 30 yards. It just pushed him forward a little and he flew off. Yesterday from 25 yards or so with a Predator this crow didn't know what hit him, he was dead on impact. If you are going to shoot at any game get the Predators. Have fun with it I sure am.

thanks to everyone for their replies!

I am getting more exited about it, but I would like to know what everyone recommends for their "break in" procedure.

when I got my crosman 2100 pump I just took it out for squirrels right away. when I finally got a good scope a few months later I didn't do anything other than sight it in the basement. I used the crosman 4 x 32 scope. it is starting to loose its oomph, and it has been suggested to me that I change the pump cup. I have the replacements now, but haven't started in on it yet. have to find a schematic..........

but what I want to know is, what are the first things you folks do when you get a new pellet rifle? I expect the whisper to show up reasonably soon and want to have it all ready.

midsouth overcharged my credit card for shipping and has not responded to my emails.

they charged my credit card one amount, but when I logged in to check the delivery date, the invoice says I was supposed to be charged $6.38 less.

figures.
