Shortened the barrel on my B3-3 and
« on: February 04, 2008, 10:44:54 AM »
Well I decided to cut of about 7 inches from my b3-3. I am not completely finished but here it is.
I also change the look of my old benjamin 342. Both are shooting well. What do you think?

Hey Rudy,

I like the look of your B-3, keep us informed on the accuracy and fps if you have chronograph, I think that might be a nice Mod for my B-3. :)

Rudy, very nice modifications done on both rifles.  The one question I have is what did you use for a front site on the B3?  It a nice touch but it doesn’t look familiar.

Ooops, I think I answered my own question.  That's the stock front sight of a B3-3 W/O the hood.

I just used a grinding stone bit that came with my air tools. It must have been good enough since the gun is as accurate as before.
Well I don't have a real chronograph but I was able to take a before and after fps reading using (SOFTCHRONO) Thank you whoever you are for making this software. I think that's what it's called.
The numbers may or may not be on spot but I can tell you this for sure. They are very consistent shot to shot. So, just to get some numbers down before making changes it is good. Before, I cut the barrel I was getting  455-468 fps using the Benjamin diabolo .22 cal 14.3 gr pellets. After the mod, well take a look I used the same pellet and test conditions were the same (done on the same day just a few hours in between). I am happy with the results.

how does the soft chrno work it you are not shooting the rifle over anything how do they come up with any numbers?I looked at this software but still can't see how it can help anyone.also I too shortened the barrel on my B3 and all I did was take the sight recess off but it seamed to shoot harder maybe it's just wishfull thinking since I don't have a chrony

Well I just followed the instructions they provided. You do end up shooting over a mic that is centered from you to the target.
I am shooting at a target 20yrds away so I have to place the mic at 32.5 ft. The software records the sound of the muzzle pop and the impact at the target. You can even replay the shot, sounds cool. Anyway, i am just using it to get some baseline numbers like I said before it may not be acurate. I  know for certain My b3-3 is hitting way harder than before. It is now burying pellets into the plywood backstop at 20 yrds, it could NOT do that before They would just bounce back.

BlueTalon1:
Did you mean your target was 20 meters from the muzzle? If so, the mic. placement at 32.5 feet could give very consistant results. Does background noise like car, truck or aircraft cause any problem?
Where did you find this software?

good catch, I am not sure why I wrote 20yrds, The target is exactly 65 feet from the muzzle and the mic is centered right at 32.5feet.

The other day it was a bit windy and that did affect it's ability to record the shots taken. Every gust of wind would trigger the software to record. The mics sensitvity can be adjusted. I am using two small mics in parallel one pointing at the muzzle and the other at the target. One mic is all you need.
I found a link to the software reading through some old postd on this site.

here is the link i hope it's ok to post it.
