CFX Vs Shadow 1000
« on: August 11, 2006, 11:36:32 AM »
Well out of the two its hard to say which one i like to shoot the most with the CFX each time i fire it it makes the classic GAMO twang sound in the spring now it dont affect the shot but the shadow has a nice smooth crack sound to it no twang does everybody have the same difference or do i just have an odd ball CFX as it is i would say i like to shoot the Shadow more for the sound & smooth action it seems to have ??? i dunno each time i go to grab a gun i have to stop & think for a sec any thoughts guys lol maybe im getting shooters block.

LOL Damage, You would be one of the last people I would think would have shooters block.. :)

Both my Black Shadow .22 and S1K lost most all the spring twang after Da Tuna Tuned them. I to love to shoot the S1K .177 along with the CFX .177. Both had noticeable spring twang when out of the box. I shot a couple tins through both before I took them to Da Tuna for that tune and triggers.

My CFX .22 seems a bit quieter than  either of the Shadows. Have you taken your CFX apart and done a lube tune? I watched Da Tuna do the tune on my Black Shadow .22 and was amazed at how many things he did in that process. One thing that took the longest and he was very meticulous about was de-burring almost everything that something rubbed or slid over or through.. I watched him work for over 4 hours on it. Non stop.. His process was organized, keen, and meticulous, and the difference was like I always say. Night and day difference. Down to even the cocking. When I cock them, they are very smooth.

He uses about 3 or 4 different types of lube in different places. Some black stuff was applied to the new spring near the end of process.
It seems he knows what place to put a particular lube on.

Anyway, Damage as long as you happy with the end results of shooting your Gamo's. I guess that is the bottom line...:)

Good Luck

I've always enjoyed shooting my Shadow 1000 .177 and especially my Black Shadow .22 and usually would stand in front of my gun safe trying to decide which one to take out for the days hunt,,,, but since this afternoon when I took my new CFX .177 on it's first "outing" now I have a real dilema.  Now I gotta choose between the 3 of em.  As much as I like the shadows I do have to admit that the CFX is definately on it's way to becoming my favorite gun for small game, just so accurate, comfortable and easy to shoot.

Hmmm we need a good airgun tuner over here well a more local one any way if i could learn all the tricks of the trade i could quit my current job and tune airguns for a living could make a killing here me thinks lol & dreams are free.
Anyway think i will just keep using the CFX for FT & the Shadow for small game & at least i know that has to think about which Gamo to use im not alone lol god im starting to sound like a AA member.

Happy shooting Guys & thanks.

Having just spent the last week shooting a Varmint Stalker/S1K while my CFX is at the Tuna's, I can see why those of you that have both are in a dilemma.  Actually, the Varmint Stalker I borrowed last week is what helped push me into buying a Gamo air rifle in the first place.  I ended up with the CFX because I felt that the fixed barrel might give me an accuracy edge.  After this last week, I'm not so sure anymore.  Since I had Bob put a new GRT trigger on my CFX while he had it, I installed my old GTX II on my bosses gun.  Other than that, box stock and less than 1000 rounds through it.  Oh, and I replaced the Gamo 4x with my original 2-7x32 AO BSA.  By the end of the week, I had RWS Superdomes and JSB Exacts going into near 1/4 in. groups at 20 yards, and sub 3/4 in. at 40.  There goes another bright idea...  Looks like my next gun will probably be a break barrel.  Of course, it might be a 48...or maybe a 52...  So many guns, so little time (and money!)...
