Morning Duck Farm Hunt
« on: March 11, 2008, 10:36:49 AM »

Had about 2 hours to kill this morning so I grabbed the B26-2 .177, some Tomahawks and headed for the duck farm. Spent about an hour and 1/2 sneaking from one place to another but couldn't even get close enough to any starlings for a shot. There were a couple of huge flocks roaming the farm, but they were so spooky there was no way to get close enough for a shot.

At one point, while I was slowly still hunting through a small patch of woods I saw something I didn't expect to see,,,,, a woodchuck. He was a medium sized G-hog and was busy enlarging the opening to his burrow. I think he was as surprised to see me as I was to see him. We were only 10 yards away from one another and both of us just froze. I had a perfectly clear head shot, but I put the rifle down and just watched him.

We stared each other down for about 2 minutes after which he jumped into the hole and disappeared. It was 41 degrees while I was at the farm so I never expected to see a G-hog, but I guess perhaps they are starting to stir. We have had weather in the 50's lately, perhaps it got their blood stirring.

Anyway, came home and spent the rest of the afternoon sighting in my newly tuned XS-B3-1 .22 "AK look-a-like".

Hey Jeff,

A few hours in the woods is better than ten hours with a psychiatrist,.......unless she's pretty ! :-)

The G-hog's are kicking about again, great buddy. I took a stroll out to the grove today myself, no shooter just a nature walk. Spotted three nutter's and five rabbit's, just saying goodbye and taking in the sight's and sound's.:) Ed
