Gamo Scope Riser

I sent an email off to Gamo regarding the scope riser issue we're all aware of.  The anwser received back was very generic and not what I expected:

Subject: Whisper Scope Rail Riser

I purchased a new Whisper last month for my son.  After weeks of not be able to keep the scope sighted in I removed the scope and mount.  I found the aluminum riser in which the scope mount was attached had an issue.  The scope pin stop hole was egged where the scope was slowly creeping backwards.  Does Gamo offer this riser made from steel or do you offer another fix for this problem?

Nice gun otherwise.  The Whisper had me set down my RWS 48 and order myself a Gome CFX in it’s place.

Thank you,

Robby

AND THEIR REPLY:

Hello,

You can use a scope stop in order to stop the creeping here is a link http://www.gamousa.com//Catalog.aspx?Product=107.

What's so special about this scope stop that would eliminate creep?  And if it was designed to stop a known problem, why do they not include it with all guns?

That scope stop used to come with all of their guns but for some reason they quit including them. They didn't usually do the job anyhow and everybody started going to one piece mounts..

Thanks for the expected answer Bob.  It did surprise me to find my kids Whisper to have already egged the pin stop hole after such a short time.  I'm so afraid that tomorrow I'll find it has begun to egg the receiver pin stop hole too.  My RWS 48 suffered the same fate years ago although it's riser is made of steel.  The scope slowly crept backwards and my ignorant self didn't realize it until it was nearly off the backside.  Maybe I'll use epoxy next or simply cross over to the "Dark Side".

I take the riser off, use a two hole two piece mount from B-Square, use equal torque on the screws, add a B-Square scope stop (with Leapers Bug scopes you need to put the stop behind the front ring), check all screws every time I shoot for a bit and I have had nothing move on any of my new guns with the aluminum riser. If I had a problem , I would go to one piece mounts like the BKL. I also suggest a CDT tune as that really smoothes things out in the firing cycle and I never but never shoot anything but regular weight pellets, nothing heavy nor light not even once "just to see what she'll do"! Also, do not use a mount that is any taller than needed, this gives the scope more lever moment. I shoot two Gamo 440's and a CFX is .177 and two CFX's in .22. If you decide to buy a "darkside" gun, call and talk me into one also!!!

dark side?

what is this dark side I hear mentioned once and awhile?

everyone wants to be a sith lord? there can only be two!

:p

anyway, I just pulled the scope riser of my whisper, and was planning on making some of my own custom ring mounts at work. nothing real fancy, just functional.

the closest thing I could find to what I wanted was at Natchez, a "1 X 11MM DVTL S/S RINGS" that supposed to fit gamo's. it still looks little higher than I would want it.
