Jerry
I have put part of a tin of the Meisterkugeln and most of a tin of Gamo Match through in the garage at about twenty four feet I have been able to hold both to about a half inch for ten round groups. Outside at about sixty feet I seem to have my best luck with CPHP's. No wind, a shot of aiming fluid to steady the nerves and I can keep it to three quarters or just a hair more. Actually it seems to do pretty good with most pellets I've tried. The only anomaly I've noticed is, it tends to occasionally, not always, shoot a flyer when you first start shooting. It appears she likes to be warmed up with five to ten shots then for some reason it really settles in.

I already have about four hundred sixty in this Gamo not including shipping charges. How much should a person expect to have to put  in to a moderately priced gun before it's the gun you really thought you bought. LOL. Who does barrel changes and what do you think they run dollar wise? My other question is what happens to my polymer shroud? I know people *_*_*_*_*_* about the plastic but I really like it. Not just for looks, it makes a great cocking handle also.

Hey Walt,

The only thing that I have done to my Gamo is Bob's GREAT GRT-III trigger, and I love it. I considered putting a 20 cal. barrel on the 890, but thought twice about it, and bought a R-9 in .20 cal., I love her also ! 8)

As for the what you thought, you bought, I can't answer your expectations, but if you have a CDT tuned rifle with his GRT-III trigger, your at 100%. At this point you will need to try different pellets, maybe a sample pack from Straight Shooters will help you find the best pellet for the job. And work on you shooting, find and hold that position that you fired great groups with, it doesnt matter where you hit as long as you have a good group, cause you can always correct the scope or sights for the group.

You have corrected all the rifles problems, you just need to become acquainted with the rifle, and how she likes to be held. Try holding her about one inch in front of the trigger housing, many find this this to be her sweet spot. I put a spot on some paper, and just shoot, using the spot as my aiming point. I don't care where the pellets hit, I just aim for the spot. After I find a pellet and hold that works, I adjust the sights for the new pellet and position...And Walt, those Wadcutters don't do so good in the wind and at longer distances, try Crosman Premier Lights or JSB Exacts for longer distance, my 890 loves them !

Keep me informed on your progress or any further questions that you might have.

My favorite GAMO??? Hmmmm,,,, guess I'd have to say the very first Shadow that I bought at Wallyworld. The reason??? Because she was my first and it was because of her that I got so heavily into air guns and got involved with GTA and all the nice folks here  :D

I guess I should also mention that rifle shoots hard and straight and has taken her share of starlings and pigeons too :)

That's easy.... My cfx in 177.  Of course I am biased in the fact that the barrel is fixed.  Accuracy accuracy accuracy....  Right out of the box to now wtih over 1500 rounds through it.  As accurate as the day I bought it and just as much fun.  Now that I've found out about Charlies trigger mod... I really cant wait to see what it will do.

my favorite so far for pests is the cfx .22...when i use the polymer tipped pellets, i can't miss, and what an effective combo...but for fun, i really like moving target practice with my viper express...even thinking of getting a shadow express...i know not many ppl like em, but, i'm hooked...i also really like tactical looking guns, so i'm really excited for the whisper varmint hunter to come out...i think we can all agree on one thing though...GAMO'S ARE SOOOOO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!

Well I only have one and don't care for it at all. The customer service is worse than the company I work for and my company"s is Beyond horrible. I've had an interest in a CFX but would prefer not dealing with Gamo's anymore. Maybe later on I'll change my mind. If I get lucky enough to stumble on a tuned S1K cheap enough I may give it a try again. I know everyone has had bad luck with one brand or another but for me it's the customer service part that's let a bad taste in my mouth. :0

Jason, I have a old S1k that I would like to sell.  It's in good shape, only thing wrong is the fiber optic strand in the rear sight is missing.  I stuffed the stock with old socks (clean, of course) and a roll of pennies.  Better balanced and less noise.  I need to recoup some of the money that I spent on my CFX the other day.  I have become addicted to this "hobby" like so many others and when my Hammerli Titan developed a bent spring (which I intend to get fixed) - I used that as an excuse to go out and buy the CFX.  Being disabled and on a very tight budget, I'm going to have to sell some in order to buy others.  I could ship it to CDT for him to tune and you could get reaquainted with Gamo.  Let me know if you are interested.  Terry

I know this is an old post but I will chime in anyway. My favorite Gamo rifle? The Hunter Extreme .177. This gun is a hunter. Heavy as sin, hard on optics if you compromise with cheapo scopes and mounts but if you set it up right and shoot CP 10.5 gr pellets you have a consumate killer. This Gamo model is made in England at BSA and is well built.Very accurate if you address properly scope, mount, and pellet choice issues.Mine shoots CP heavies at 1030 fps and hits what I aim at.Any squirrels or other game I shoot  stays dead.Flat shooting and hunter accurate to 50 yds.

The only Gamo I own is my .177 CFX and I love it. Bought the GRT III within a week of owning it and turned it into a whole different rifle. I recently tore it down and replaced the spring, seal, and gave it a fitted guide  and tophat. Now it's easy enough for my 4 year old to shoot! It puts CPL's where the trigger breaks within an acceptable range (30-40yards). This is the rifle all my others have to live up to. None of them out shoot it yet.

I am gonna give my opinion on an old question.....I own four GAMO rifles...HUNTER EXTREME,1250 HUNTER,890 S,CFX......IMO the EXTREME & 1250 HUNTER are not your average GAMO,as they are both made in England by BSA(controlling interest owned by GAMO)I beleive that the older GAMO rifles are better made than the newer ones, out of the CFX & 890 S,both made from GAMO,I think the 890 S is a better gun........I am not a big fan of the EXTREME,although it is a well built gun......My two favorite GAMO rifles are hands down...by far the 1250 HUNTER & than THE 890 S..Two of the last original GAMO,of which one is a BSA made gun......

My favorite GAMO is without a doubt my 1250 .22 caliber !!  Beautiful rifle and just an outstanding hunter  :)

Next favorite would probably by my 890.  I haven't shot it in a long time but she is a sweety :)   I'm gonna have to reach into the back of the gun safe and take her on a hunt soon......

My .22 CFX.  Smoother shooter than my .177.  Both are more buzzy and twangy than my other rifles, but are very accurate with their favorite pellets.
