Another new Air Gun - Weihrauch HW80K
« on: April 05, 2008, 01:31:01 PM »
Hi everyone,
I brought this beauty last week. In the UK it's known as the HW80K in .177 cal but I am not sure what it is marketed as in the States and elsewhere. R1? Beeman R9?
Anyhow, what a wonderful air gun :) Beautiful blueing and nice woodwork. With the supplied moderator it's very quiet although with that short barrel it's not a joy to cock. Muscles are are developing again....hehe.  I am shooting RWS Superdomes, Crosman Premiers and JSB Exacts and all can give me half groupings at 25 yards from a kneeling position which is good for me. Although my PCP is great and CO2 guns are cool there is nothing like an "old fashioned" springer to make me smile  :D With the power limit for none licenced air guns set at 12ft/lb this one knocks out 11.85ft/lbs every shot. I have put 6-16 x 44 AO scope on it and plan to enter a few HFT comp's at my local club and see if I can avoid coming last.....
Best wishes,
Alan

Another beauty Alen..:) For sure the springers are fantastic air guns to shoot. They do not need anthing but a pellet and a body to shoot them..:) But of course the PCP's and C02's are fun to shoot and they serve as a different means of throwing lead..:).. It is all about enjoying the hobby and sport of air guns..:) Love my springers and my PCP..:)

http://www.airgunbuyer.com/Showproducts.asp?cat=air%20rifles&SubCat=Brocock%20Air%20Rifles

I am interested in the wood stocked deluxe version. It's a beaut' isn't it?

Send help quickly.....hehe

The Weihrauch is a wonderful rifle and I think you could grab a rabbit or two with it. Although I am just hunting pop cans at the moment!

Beautiful Weihrauch rifle Alan!
Yes the HW80 is the same rifle as the Beeman R1. The R1 has long been considered the "workhorse" of the Beeman R series line up, and is noted as being the rifle that ushered in the "super magnum rifles.". We can buy both the R1 and the HW80 here in the FAC version, easily mid to high 900 fps. range 16-17 ftlbs rifles. The carbine versions show up occasionally and are certainly a bit more handy in the field.
The current stable, (arsenal, quiver?): BSA Lightning XL .177, BSA Sportsman HV .22, BSA Ultra .177, CZ634 .177, Daystate Harrier X .177, TAU 200 Senior .177, HW 97 .177, HW 50s .177, HW 30 .177, RWS 92 .177, Gamo 126 MC Super, Gamo Big Cat .177, AR2078A, QB78 .177, Quest 1000 .177, Beeman SS650 .177., Beeman P17 .177.

Thanks Stepanie :)
I think the full barrelled rifle may be a tad too heavy for me as my carbine with a scope and moderator is quite enough to lug around. I know of a few HW80's over here that run quite nicely at 24-26ft/lbs with no problems. I wonder why they are not sold under the Weihrauch name in the States?

Alan

Alan, we can buy some of the Weihrauch rifles under the Weihrauch name, HW30, HW50, HW80, HW90. Beeman has long been the importer of Weihrauch rifles and had numerous agreements with them on the rifles they would sell here. Beeman bought so many rifles from Weihrauch that the factory would produce special rifles just to be sold under the Beeman name. Usually the Been R series rifles had a few extra cosmetic touches, nicer wood, more checkering, etc. Beeman has had Weirauch produce some limted edition rifles for them over the years. Beeman even was able to leverage Weihrauch to produce .20 cal. rifles for them. That I am aware of you can only buy a .20 cal. Weihrauch rifle under the Beeman brand name.

I love my HW 50 and it is about the limit on weight of air rifle that I like. It is very accurate and fun to shoot. Makes me look good when I count how few holes I make at 40 yards..:)

Thanks a lot Ken. That's really useful to me as now I can get a handle on what's what when you talk about Beeman etc.
Thanks again,
Alan :)

You seem to fair better than us in the UK Stephanie. I guess the numbers sold are much higher in the US so it is worth Weihrauch's time to make specials for you. What's your favourite?

Alan
