One piece scope mount problem! Help!!

Hey there, I recently purchased a Gamo shadow 1000, and accushot one piece mount, When I tighten the mount it moves the entire mount to the right so that when I put the scope in the rings it sits a tad to the right of top dead center...It is not aligned perfectly down the middle of the barrel, a little to the right....Soooo, basically when I sight in at a given yardage (20yards first zero) it is fine, but when I go past that yardage, because of my scope being slightly to the right, it pulls my POI to the side! I'm not sure if I'm telling this as easily as possible but would appreciate some feedback...I suppose I could buy an rws c-mount and scoot the rings to the left if needed, or am I just using the wrong mount? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!!  P.S. Sorry for posting this in two catergories..I wasn't sure if anyone would read it in the scope and mounts area...not as much traffic...Sorry noob here..!!

Mounts, dovetailsand rails have put me in quandary on innumerable occasions. I just as soon use an open sight any more to avoid headaches with certain types of mounts required to correct for droop or rail / dovetail problems . . .

I have been thinking about your mount problems !

I feel that the bottom of one of the scope mount hooks, that connect the mount to the rail, must be too long, underneath, perhaps a piece of scale, pushing down on the bottom of the spring housing, ( area under the mount), causing the shifting. I hope you can understand my description, and that this helps .

Very interesting...I have two Shadow 1000's and will be installing Accushot 1pc scope mounts on both of them later today.  One of my rifles has a rail and the other is just grooved.  I'll let you know how it turns out.

Biscuitg, it could be that he vertical stop pin hole is not aligned precisely in the center of the rail. It could be off center just a few thousandths to the left or right. If thats the case your mount will sometimes not allign wit the grooves on your rail.You could maybe adjust your stop pin in the mount up so it does not make contact with the hole. Retighten the mount. If the mount now aligns correctly in a straight line, then your stop pin hole is slightly off center. You can then widen the hole in the direction you need it to be, drive the stop pin back out of the mount to re engage the now widened hole, then remount. Also clean the grooves real good to remove any crud that might interfere with positive lock-up. I had this same problem with a B-Square mount. The darn thing wouldn't go on straight. When I tapped the stop pin out and remounted it went on perfectly straight. I could look through the hole and see the recessed stop pin hole was slightly off center. I ground the hole wider on one side to put enough hole in the center so the stop pin would engage and she mounted  up straight and stayed that way. Easy fix.

I appreciate all of the suggestions, but I need to possibly clarify further...My rifle already has a scope stop on it, I am not using the pin on the mount...When I set the mount on my dovetail loosely it is straight, when I tighten it, because of the geometry of the mount, it pulls slightly to the right as I am tightening it...It ends up being I'd say 4 mm off to the right.  The grooves are all clean and straight, it seems as though the mount is too big or too small and when I tighten it changes it's geometry and gradually pulls over to the right until it is tight.  Is the gamo shadow 3/8" groove? mm?  Accushot should be ok right?  P.S.  Thanks for all of the responses looking forward to more help if anyone can figure this out with me..I hate to keep buying wrong mounts it will break my bank!!

Scott, Here's a suggestion I posted to you in the Scopes and Mounts section:

The Accushot mounts are designed with a reversible clamping plate to acommodate different width rails. Try flipping the plate and see if this works.

PS: Use the scope stop pin on the mount in the hole in the receiver as opposed to the rail mount stop, much more secure.

You might try taking out the screws and turn the locking plate around  so that the part that contacts the mount now contacts the dove tail ,turn around not over, there might be a little difference it may or may not help its worth a try

I was thinking the same thing as PeakChick, the clamping plates that fit into your scope rail could be upside down or just one of them could be.  Look at them closely to make sure they're turned the same way and if so maybe rotating them 180 degrees may fix your proble.  Good luck and let us know if it works out.

OK Scott, I installed two Accushot 1pc mount's on both of my Shadow 1000's today and they both lined up without a problem.  I did notice that the clamp on the side appears that it could be put on upside down and it looks slightly different.  The edge that goes into the rail looks sharper than the edge that goes into the rail as mentioned in a previous post.  Hope you figure it out and let us know what the problem was.

Hey there everyone that pitched in with the help, I flipped over the clamping bracket, and at first it didn't seem as though it would be able to get tight enough, then sure nuff' it settled in nicely!  I had origionally put this on straight out of the packaging and assumed it was the way it was supposed to go!!  I guess that's true about what they say about assumptions!!  Thank you all soooo much, I feel like a bone-head, but at least I'll be a better shooting bone-head now!!  :p
