Disco Groups ...... It's getting better
« on: April 07, 2008, 04:25:31 AM »
I shot the Disco this morning after changing the barrel out yesterday . It's getting better . Group # 1 bottom center ; is with superdomes from the F/T sitting position , 7 shots after sight in . I was going for 10shots,  but stopped  at 7 ,after the 10 o'clock pulled shot . Group # 2 is 5 shots  20 yards with superdomes from the sitting position;  Group #3 , #4, and #6 are 5 shot groups from 18yards with JSB Exacts 8.4  4.52's ; Group #5 is from the bench with superdomes at 18 yards . This dog will hunt . LOL If nothing else it'll be my hunting rifle . I need to go back to using card stock for targets , this was regular copy paper and it tends to tear easy. For a reference those are 1" dots.  kirby

Have you cleaned and lapped that barrel?

Or is it astock Crosman barrel with a 'simple crown job' applied?
`
Got a few Crosman here that shoot so well, that any 10ftlb target {including bees and wasps, of course} quickly getloaded upwith Crosman premier lead . . .

I did a good cleaning on this one when I had it out so it would be easier to do. I think this one is going to be good with a few more pellets down the barrel. kirby

I left out a little something about my barrel change over last night , while I had it apart I smeared a little Dielectric silicone on the hammer to help it out a little. It did ; at a starting pressure of 1300 PSI , I was shooting a low of approx. 820fps and a high of around 850fps for 30+ shots ; Now with the same 1300psi fill I'm getting a low of 856fps and a high of of around 890fps for 30+ shots. Both times I'd get to 32 shots and the speed would drop past the starting speed. It's shooting Kodiaks at 800fps for 15fpe. It also shot JSB Predators at 900fps and most of the time into a single pellet hole off the bench at 18 yards . Kodiaks avg. cloverleafs most of the time . I shot some CPL's and they were cooking at 900+ , but the groups were around a 1/2 " at 18 yards . Not acceptable in my book. The Disco is definitely starting to get my attention , especially for a hunting rifle. kirby

Good information David. I am the other guys will try the Dielectric silicone on there's. For sure you do need to season that barrel a bit longer with lead..:) I would think up to 500 pellets in a pcp barrel should do it. Usually takes more in a springer.:)
