Goo Gone
« on: April 09, 2008, 01:14:49 AM »
Hi everyone,
I have often seen reference to a product called "Goo Gone" on the forum especially for cleaning rifle barrels. I am in the UK and I cannot find the product here so I wondered if anyone can look at the bottle/tin/jar etc and tell me its constituents so I could find something similar over here?
Thanks a lot,
Alan :)
It\'s OK it\'s just a bruise!

Found an MSDS sheet for it, the bottle itself doesn't say much...

This doesn't help much more, they simply refer to "Proprietary Mixture (Citrus and Petroleum Solvent-Based Stain Remover)"

http://www.ifa.hawaii.edu/instr-shop/MSDS/Goo%20Gone.pdf

It's flashpoint and density point to a parafin carrier.  In practice it's a bit, um, oilier feeling than most liquid parafins.  No idea what the citrus stuff is, probably a lemon oil type thing.  Look at other label remover brands, things such as Goof Off and others.

Failing that, consider ordering online.  The shipping charges may suck, but you'll only ever need one bottle.  Takes about 3 drops to clean a barrel with a jag.  Keep it outta the wife's reach!

Alan, don't know if you can get this either, but Simple Green is another very good biodegradable cleaner that works well for cleaning barrels and has no petroleum in it.
