zero barrel droop
« on: April 24, 2008, 03:15:42 PM »
looking for a rifle that is at the most 250.00$ with no barrel droop , and is in the 1000 FPS range, and accurate. I have been looking into an RWS 94 but dont know if they have barrel droop. I have had it with the barrel on my big cat its frustrating and i dont like having to shim it. If any of you have any suggestions, feel free to mention them.

RWS rifles are know to be a droopier although I have a 46 with out the problem. You might visit the library and check out the barrel bending section. Or send it to Charlie. Its a mixed bag on this subject. With brake barrels being the worst. If you like what you have other than that bend it.  Or a elevation adjustable scope mount  . Marvin

Ive heard that RWS makes droopy rifles, but i was thinking of buying a beeman. I read some things at reviewcentre people are saying that either the SS1000t and the GS950 (supposed to be better) are some of the best rifles theyve owned. Someone even said that the GS950 is a better rifle than their RWS. I hear RWS 94s can get 1-inch groupings at 45yards. Im at a loss on what i should get but i definately want an improvement over my Big Cat.

Gil, I agree with Marvin that an adjustable scope mount that allows for windage and elevation adjustments can go a long way toward easing your frustrations with your Big Cat. Shimming a scope will be a thing of the past. It will likely serve you well regardless of which rifle you mount it on. With an adjustable mount you won't care if your barrel has droop or if the receiver grooves are not machined in a perfectly straight parallel  with the bore. Plus you can set your scope at near optical center and have available the full range of your scopes adjustments. my 2 cents.
