Storm XT Scope
« on: April 25, 2008, 12:34:32 AM »
As some of you know, the factory scope and mounts that come with this gun have some problems. I've read many articles online about how the mounts loosen up and the slides off the rail from the high recoil. Well, I had this problem too when I first got my Storm. On the rear mount there is a small allen screw and the scope comes with the wrench to adjust this screw. On the top of the gun (top of the rail) near the rear there is a small hole. I had the hole and screw aligned but my scope still kept slipping off. Finally I tightened the rear mount's screw as tight as I could and then tightened the allen screw until it felt like it was going to cause the mount to break off the rail. From there I loosened it about a half turn and put my front mount on. From there I put my scope and got it all nice and level. I've never had a problem since then.

I just thought I should get that out there for anyone having this problem with an XT.

Sounds like the stop pin, in the mount may not screwed in far enough to engage the hole, at first. I guess that I have been lucky, I haven't had any problems with creep, even with the cheap mounts that come with the Golden Antler scopes.  Glad to hear that you got yours to hold.

I'm thinking about taking things a step further and using a Dremel to open the hole more to allow the screw to fully enter it. Right now it's just the tip of it that can go it. It's working just fine though. I guess if any problems come up in the future I'll try my Dremel idea.

I tried a little experiment with this and here is my conclusion. When installing the scope mount I think people are trying to tighten down the scope stop then the rail mounts. I've found this causes the mount to not grab the rails fully. I extend the stop just enough the get lined up with the stop pin hole then tighten down the mount. I then run the stop down till it stops with just a bit of pressure. I've never had a mount move on any gun yet. My old webly doesn't even have a stop pin hole. I just clamped it down good still has not moved.

My Storm XT stop-pin hole was very small.....and only abit of the tip of the stop pin would go in.  I drilled the hole larger so the whole screw goes in....I blue lock-tited the threads first (And all the screws on the mount).  My scope and scope mount haven't moved at all after 700+ shots.  Btw, my Storm came with a CenterPoint scope....probably a low end one....but the "zero" haven't moved.
