Great review Jeff!  I don't recall a review in Airgun Hobby, you should submit yours with pics.

I bought a G1 3 weeks ago and it took me about 50 shots to figure out the scope was defective.  I returned the scope and Crossman says they're out and it'll be another 2 weeks before I get a replacement.  So, today I put an UIltradot on it and a pair or rings just to see how it really shot with a decent sight.  It did great!  I was getting 1" groups at 25 yards with a 3 minute dot...not the best for precision target shooting but okay for  testing.  The rifle weighs a total of 7#, 8oz with the Ultradot installed and the steel muzzle brake.  Recoil is sharp but light and it rolls a tad to the right but the dot only moves about 4" off center.
It isn't quite as quiet as my R7 but is considerably more quiet than the 4 CFX's I bought, tuned and sold.  It's shooting 886/892 with CPL's and is very smooth both in cocking and firing cycles.  I did a little work on the trigger, installed one of Rich's Inserts and the pull is very smooth and light.  However, I like 'CDT's' trigger shoe better for feel so willl probably order one.  That rounded, stamped trigger on the G1 just doesn't feel right to my finger...probably due to so much firearm experience.
I do have one question for you folks who've shot CPL's in a G1.  Out of about 30 shots, I had 2 that flew about 2" high and 1.5" left.  I called both those shots on point and was surprised when those holes appeared.  I was using the "artillary hold" from sandbags.  I have to assume it was the pellets but I didn't' notice any deformation of the skirts.  Anyone else having this sort of problem with the CPL's?

Hey Robert, I have not had much luck with CPL's in my Gamo rifles as far as accuracy is concerned. That being said, have you tried any other pellets yet? Your G1 may need a bit more break-in time for the flier's to go away.  I just ordered a G1 myself after reading the reviews and comments about them on this forum. Can't wait till it arrives  :p

Tried out my new G1 Extreme today and

..what a deal it is. Jeff's review was absolutley right on the money as usual. After sighting it in, it calmed down after 25-30 shots and started grouping well. But the rifle still has the crosman staple of the"smoking barrel" after each shot. It does not appear to be a problem but my question for you G1 user's is how long will it take for the "smoking barrel" to go away?

I know that Crosman tend to over-lube their springers but is it overkill?

Hey Greg,

Glad to hear you like the rifle,,,, I love mine :)

As for the smoking,,,,, I spent quite a bit of time cleaning the barrel, went through quite a few cleaning patches before they came out squeeky clean,,, and as a result the smoking went away very quickly.    Try cleaning the barrel some more, I think it might help.....
