Shadow 1000 .20 Caliber................
« on: September 13, 2006, 12:08:44 PM »
Got up early this morning and went over to CDT's house and rousted him outa da bed at 6:00 am..:) Drug him to his shop and through my new Wally World Shadow 1000 on the bench with a new Walthers Choked .20 Cal barrel from Rich, AKA "Peterdragon"..:)..

Immediately CDR's eyes got as big as eggs when he picked up the barrel and checked the rifling and choke out. He carefully ran a pellet through the barrel with a dowel. Very slow until it popped out on the bench. He picked it up and pulled down the big lighted magnifying glass from over head. He gazed at the pellet for a moment or so spinning in his fingers and said, "the rifling is perfect on this barrel". I looked at the pellet head outer surface myself and there you could see I think 12 lines on the outer edge of pellet. I learned now what a nice choked barrel is supposed to spit out..:)

CDT then called his Doberman out of the house and told him to watch me till he was done. So I went to the corner while Fritz layed starring at me for 4 hours.

While I was sitting for all that time, CDT was exchanging the .177 Gamo barrel with the .20 cal Walthers barrel. Giving the Shadow a complete Turbo Super Tune with spring, trigger, custom made spring guide, then deburing all parts, honing the chamber tube, washing cleaning and blow dried everything.

Then he took out seven containers with a different grease in each. He then applied the different lubricants to different parts of the Shadow just like he does all of his tunes. He was using home made tools that he made to apply lube meticulously all over the Shadows's working parts.

After he was satisfied with the lube, he began the process of putting everything together. Bit by bit, piece by piece until it was completed.

Well 4 hours later CDT he looked over at Fritz told him to go in the house and called me over to the chrony and said shoot the dang thing..

First thing I noticed was the barrel was a bit bigger and the Shadow was a tad heavier but not much. I threw in a pellet that Rich, AKA "Peterdragon' had supplied with the barrel. Laid the barrel on the chrony rest and fired. First shot was 683 and all consecutive shots were between 728 and 783. As I put in the pellets and shot the numbers would grow bigger. We had put in around 15 pellets and the numbers just got higher.

To say the least, I am very very pleased with the outcome of the Conversion. Rich, AKA "Peterdragon" had sent me a flawless barrel that converted very easily. He also sent along a tool to use in order to remove old barrel with and, pellets, muzzle brake and allot of talent and workmanship. Thanks Rich and thanks to CDT's excellent airgusmithing.

I have ordered 6 tins of Beeman FTS pellets and will have some more information after the weekend.

Got My First Chance to Shoot the S1K .20 Cal.................

this evening. Put a new Bushman Banner 4 12 X40 on top. Used a new BKL 253A scope mount with a beeman stop for the mount. This Model of Shadow I purchased from Wally World had a metal stop plate screwed int dove tail and not the cheapy Gamo stop. Anyway under the metal stop were two holes. One to screw the stop in place and another larger hole in back of that one for a scope stop pin. The Beeman scope stop worked perfect for this.

After getting everything mounted up and snugged down I threw up one of those targets from: http://www.arld1.com/images/swfs/targetspageof3ringadjustablesize.swf . First shot was 2 inches high and 1 inch to the right. After a couple of clicks it was right on the money. In the red 5 out of 6 shots.

I think I am gonna like this .20 S1K...:) Gonna try and run a couple of tins through it tomorrow afternoon. After I do all my honey dooos...:) Hope to have time then and take a couple pics for you.

It feels like a regular S1K but a bit more solid to the recoil. I did throw it up on the chrony and it was still in the mid 700's. Also checked out my S1K's. The .177 is high 800's and low 900's fps still with RWS Superdomes. Don't ya love it...:) Even pulled down the big boy Hunter Royal 1250 .22 and heis still is pushin over 975 fps with RWS Superdomes. I think for the best accuracy for me is when these Gamo's are shooting under 800 fps.

Sorry Yote. My mistake. Was looking at wrong line on my paper. The S1K .177 is in the high 8's low 9's.. My Hunter 440  .177 is consistant in the low 9's to mid 9's fps. The Hunter is not as accurate as the S1K and the S1k is not as accurate as the CFX .177...:)

I think I got it right this time...

I think he meant FPS (Feet per Second) and not FPE (Foot lbs Energy). Either that or he meant his arm buster 1250.... :D  :D  :D
