I'm VERY concerned by the racist tone of your title. A lot of the comments about Muslims I see (and no, Obama is NOT Muslim, he is a Christian) remind me of what racists like Hitler and those in the KKK say about Jews and blacks. And while Obama spent 2 years in a Muslim school in Jacarta (where 98% of the population is Muslim) that video discounts the many more years he spent in Catholic school. In addition, our government has a history of supporting terrorists and repressive regimes as long as those regimes support US or US corporate interests. Obama doesn't say that we should give in to terrorists, only that there can be no peace if they are not at least heard...unless you plan on killing EVERY single insurgent and every relative of theirs in a mass genocide then how are we going to get peace? Do you all REALLY think it's only religious fervor that drives someone to strap a bomb to themselves? As far as supporting the Bush regime and the war in Iraq, this does not support our troops. The best way to support our troops is to bring them home alive and not abandon them. While Bush has approved Halliburton no-bid contracts paying $50/gallon for gas to fuel tanks and jeeps our troops are given inadequate medical care, especially psychological care. The war in Iraq was based on false pretenses and Bush aides have come forward admitting that Bush planned on invading Iraq before the first election ever took place in '00. Blaming Iraq for 9/11 (which IS what the Bush spin-machine was capitalizing on) and supporting a war in Iraq was idiocy. If you were for the invasion you should be ashamed, it was the wrong time. I believe I heard that the UN would have voted to take action against Saddam had the US waited a few more weeks, but that would have meant less profits for US war industries. Take a good, long, hard, look at who REALLY profits from this war, it sure isn't you and me, and it's DEFINITELY not our soldiers.

 

What scares the crap out of me is that people might let their fear do the voting for them and elect McCain. The man is NOT stable and if anything would cause even more deaths than Bush. McCain has admitted he is in favor of reinstating the draft and continuing the war in Iraq indefinitely. All the while the dollar is plummeting, which is the real reason gas prices are so nuts, the US dollar isn't even worth a Canadian dollar right now!!!!! Out of the three likely candidates for president, I hate to admit it (because I really dislike her personally) but I think Clinton is the best person for the job, followed by Obama, and I'd rather throw a rock in a crowd and make whoever it hit president than McCain...that guy worries me, a LOT.

Michael, Thank you for presenting another view point in this discussion. Personally, I agree with you on many points. I do feel the Senator Obama is not qualified for the position of President. I'm not a huge fan of Hillary personally, but I do believe she has the political experience to do the job well. I respect Senator McCain for his service to our country and he has a good record of cross party affiliation and cooperation in the Senate, but I've had it with the Republicans. I do believe that President Bush (and it nearly gags me to attach that honorific of office to his name) has done more to harm this country, her people and our standing in the world community than any other president I can recall. At this point I'm for anyone but Bush and his cronies.  I feel I have the right to criticize President Bush and his cabinet as I voted for him in '00, certainly  did not in '04. I am financially conservative and socially liberal and have always been registered to vote as an independent. I also am a veteran of 15 years military service to this country, so I reserve the right to be critical of any administration or congress.
We do need to have a broader perspective on inclusion of all our citizens and their constitutionally guaranteed rights to freedom of belief and freedom from discrimination and persecution.

Your post is a graphic illustration of EXACTLY why the second amendment is SO important to us. If the government means us no harm then they have no reason to fear us. Bill Clinton was fiscally responsible and did good for this country on EVERY level except gun control. However I found him creepy, smarmy, and sleazy as an individual. I don't think that in her personal life that Hillary is much better, however out of the three choices we're given this time around she'll be best for our COUNTRY. And I believe she is most likely to get us out of Iraq unless the fascists regain a majority in congress. Because McCain is in the pockets of big corporate mining interests and other environmentally irresponsible interests, AND he has expressed a desire to continue the war in Iraq "as long as 'it' takes" even if he has to start the draft up again, AND he is part of the same "old boy" crony network as shrub, I'd rather have even someone who lacks the amount of experience I think he should have like Obama than him. And seriously, I wish folks would stop hate mongering, most of the anti-muslim anti-anything-but-white half truths and fiction being spread is a pathetically transparent attempt to hide bigotry and racism.
