IMHO, both are inherently accurate. It's the gun, the pellet, and the shooter that makes the difference.

I have guns in both calibers and some of each are outstanding, and others, not so much.
If you shoot a group, say 5 shots, and all your holes are touching, the .177 group will be smaller, merely because the pellets are of a smaller diameter. It will appear to be more accurate due to a smaller CTC spread, when in actuality it just shoots smaller pellets.
It all boils down to getting a good gun in the caliber you prefer, and feeding it the pellets it prefers.

I agree with the others,,,,,,,  my .177's and .22's are equally accurate,, provided of course I do my part  :)

With longer distances you of course have more pellet arc with the heavier .22 pellets, but if you know your rifle it don't matter  :)

That's kind of like asking, "What's more accurate, a 9mm or a .45 ACP?"

Both calibers have their pros and cons. Both can be equally accurate and equally inaccurate. If you have a good .177 rifle with good pellets and know how to shoot you will be accurate. If you have a .177 rifle with good pellets, but you can't shoot, you will not be accurate. If you have a good rifle with bad pellets and you know how to shoot, you probably won't be accurate. Same applies to .22 rifles. A lot of things need to be looked at when talking about accuracy.

I found out about pellet sensitivity with my QB36-2, .22 cal. First tried Daisy Prec. Max Flat nose and the gun was pretty good 3/4 " groups at 15 yds. Then I tried Crosman Premier hollow points. The groups were like 2-3 inches.thought something was wrong wi th the gun, cleaned barrel, still bad, got more Daisy wadcutters and everything was fine. My gun also likes JSB Exacts.Without readjusting scope the JSB shot about 2 inches right compared to the Daisys. That was at 30 yds.  I can understand a difference up and down due to different pellet weight and nose shape, but I can't understand a different pellet shooting off to one side like that.

Theoretically....

....the longer elapsed time between pulling the trigger and the pellet leaving the barrel (because of the slower velocity) means that the shooter has a little more time to move the gun and screw up the shot. But the difference is so small that I doubt it has any real significance.

Plinkmaster, you have to think about the pellet design too, not just weight. A wadcutter will fly a certain way because of it's flat head where a pointed pellet will fly a different way because of the point. Design of a pellet does play a big role in how it will fly.

As everybody mentioned...the shape and weight of the pellet, shooter skill have alot to do with the accuracy.  One thing not mentioned is that some scopes when you reduce or increase the magnification will also shift the point of impact.  Also if you happen to cant the gun slightly.  And some guns just don't like certain pellets... :D   I've a Crosman Sierra Pro that shoots Crosman dome (hunting) pellets about 4 inches low and 2 inches to the right at 10 meters!!!!  All my other guns will have a different point of impact (With different pellets as well) with those pellets....but not so drastically.

Bottom line; buy different pellets and test them out......you get to shoot more and have fun testing them out.   :p

I like .177s because the pellets are cheaper, and I like .22s because the pellets are bigger/easier to handle and really knock the heck out of tree rats.I say get both and shoot them a lot. That's what I did.
