I never heard of a product that repelled ticks except for the collars and drops for pets. The best thing I could tell you is if you go out into the woods where long pants. Another one is, if you plan on going out into the woods after a storm and if deer inhabit your neck of the woods stay from hemlock and pine trees because they usually use them for cover during a bad storm. Oh, one more thing, if you know what a deer bed looks like stay away from it. I cannot tell you how many times that I see my basset hound run through deer beds and come back with a couple ticks on her. Drives me nuts.

Joe,

Many say Skin-So-Soft works well, but I tried it, and found that it only made my cats smell sweet.

I use Frontline, and if I find a tick on one of my cats, its trying to get off !

1-800-pet-meds, free shipping, to your door ! Expensive, but it works and is vet recomended.

I just looked, and they recomend K9 Advantix ? check it out. http://www.1800petmeds.com/Frontline+Plus-prod10459.html

Permenone is the best. Dr.Alan is probably referring to Skin so Soft. Smells pretty. If you can't find permenone any Deet repellant like Deep Woods Off is a good all purpose repellant.

Is this for pets or for you? For pets remember it can be licked off. For you be careful about possible allergic reactions. I had problems with OFF years ago due to inhaling the vapors after spraying pants. If I use deet I wash it off ASAP.  Give it a little try before you commit. As I recall the clothing repellent needs a while to cure. I have had success with sulfur in my socks etc years ago. Recently, medicated body powder can help probably due to the menthol. Reminds me to powder up when I go out this weekend. Have also used skin so soft years ago too. I t is West Nile virus season here now and the excessive rain all over gives pests more places to breed.

Joe, most all of the surveyors around here, spray a little diesel fuel on a rag and tie it around their ankles.

Anyone ever tried putting cheap dog flea and tick collars around their ankles?

Just curious if it works... :p

Joe,,,,, products with permanone and deet work especially well, with deet being the best of the 2.  Make sure you get the highest % of deet you can.  Those dog flea collars work great if you put one on each leg around your socks.  Most of the ticks you will get on you come up your legs and those flea collars work great.  Also, wear light colored clothing so you can spot them easily.

If you stop in any good hunting store they will have a good variety of products to choose from .

joe,
go to the hunting section of wally world and look for 100% deet.  they have several replellents with different amounts of deet.....20%, 40%, 75%.  get the one that is 100%.  we have monster ticks down here in south carolina and the 100% deet keeps them off......
