CFx Help needed

Hello, I'm pretty new to airgunning.  Have a old Gamo S1K and a Hammerli Titan that recently developed a bent spring. Just got a CFX - what a nice rifle.  I hate the revolving breech like a lot of people - but because of the ease of shooting and the accuracy - I'll live with it.  However, when I cock the CFX, I do not like to grab the lock-up mechanism and grab the cocking lever below the catch instead.  This means that I'm putting my sweaty hands on the blued lever which I'm sure is not good for it.  Does anyone use any type of covering to protect the blueing.  It would have to be thin so that it did not interfer with or put too much stress between the cocking arm and the barrel.  I thought about leather but would have to use an adhesive to keep it on.  What type of adhesive could I use that could be removed later and would not damage the blueing?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Terry

The best thing to do, is just wipe it down, with your favorite oil, when your done shooting. The easiest thing I can think of, if you want to cover it, would be to put on a GOOD oil, then a piece of heat shrink tubing. With the leather, the sweat from your hand will soak in to it and rust will form under it, I think you'd find a nasty mess, when removed.

Mike, I think the oil may have chemical reaction with the plastic as most shrink tubing is made from petroleum distillates. This reaction could be nasty at the least and leave a residue on the finish or even etch it. I am not 100% sure about this, but it seems possible.

what about some kind of tape?  either way, as long as you wipe it down after every use before storage, it shouldn't be a problem, right?

try removing the screw that secures the latch and don't lose the spring. Slide a piece of shrinktight tubing over the cocking arm to your desired length and give it a bit of heat. Replace the latch and voila!!

I don't think it would be a problem, Ron, but would probably be best to use a little moly, instead of oil, just to prevent rust, under the shrink tube. Like I said though, the BEST thing to do, is just wipe down, when though for the day.

I could've mentioned this in my earlier post, but, I have had my CFX for almost three years now and it shows no signs of wear around the cocking lever. I just wipe her down with a cloth before I put her away and she still looks new. The only place that the blueing is disappearing is around the rotating breech where the plastic lever rubs the compression tube.

I agree,, just wipe it down thoroughly with a lightly oiled cloth,,,,, I use a silicone impregnated cloth  (get em at WallyWorld for $2.00) and it works great for me.  I do an awful lot of pest control shooting in the summer at a local duck farm and it's brutally hot when I'm there.  My hands are always sweaty and I am constantly cocking and shooting whatever rifle I have with me.  When I get home I take my time and wipe the rifle down really well with the silicone cloth and even make sure when I put the rifle back in the gun safe I am doing so by holding the gun with the cloth.  I haven't had any problems at all with metal discoloration or rust by using this method.

T, I have mine for 2 years, beat the sh*t out of it, wipe it down with one of those $5 silicone rags and it looks brand new!!
